View Full Version : Exhaust Packing.
A while ago I made a homemade stubby can and it is great, trouble is it keeps eating exhaust packing, meaning after a month it sounds tinny hollow and drops power from 3-5krpm, iv replaced the packing twice and it keeps eating it, are there different grades of exhaust wadding or is there somethin wrong with my sk1? anyone recommend a good brand of exhaust wadding?
Does it matter how much you put in? if i completely packed the can as tight as i could get it would it last longer? mayb i need more than one roll?
SOOO MANY QUESTIONS ABOUT THIS! thanks guys

On mine I wrapped it in wire wool tightly, wire around that. Then wrap it in the fibreglass... get the woven stuff, the chopped fluffy stuff is useless. Then wrap it in a load of clingfilm.
Thanks y_c I'm gona get the stuff n do it this week if I get the time :) can't wait to get my thump back

Then wrap it in a load of clingfilm.
Why clingfilm?!
Wont it melt in there or am I missing something?

It's a Rictus trick. Apparently it shrinks down and holds the packing tight. Worked a treat on my fuel stubby I had, that lasted maybe 8k after a repack before I swapped it for a full M4 and it still sounded good and boomy, not harsh at that.

Am I right in thinking that the "wire around that" just to hold it in place around the pipe before putting the sleave back on?
Exhaust is packed and back on, job well done! Thanks for the help y_c
