So I go off to london to do some work leaving my car at the office in Northampton. Arrive back after a looooooong day at work starting at 8.30am and arriving back at the office at 4am to find some thieving scrotebags had decided to try and relieve my car off all of it wheels.
I personally think cars look and work better with wheels but then what do I know.
Fortunately they had only managed to get away with one but the rest were attached by only one loose bolt each apart from one of the front wheels which was holding the car up by the wheel arch at a angle.
So at 4am in the snow there's me with two trolley jacks attempting to reattach the wheel and grab the spare out of the boot to give me the 4 wheel I needed to get the car away from the office incase they decided to come back and finish the job. They seem to have stolen a few wheel nuts aswell but again fortunately I had a spare set of locking wheel nuts in the boot to attach the wheel firmly enough to get home.
What a ball ache!!! So have spent most of today trying to find replacement wheel nuts which are non exsistant so went and bought 2 packs of locking wheel nuts to get back to the full amount of nuts and replace the old locking wheel nuts...wheel nuts.
To top it off aswell I have someone coming round tomorrow who wants to buy the car so I had to phone her up and tell her everything but she seemed okay as there is no actual damage and I would compensate enough for her to buy a new spare wheel if she ends up buying it.
So not even the snow has deterred pikey scum bags.

What sort of car do you have for somebody to try nicking your wheels?
And it must be seriously special to have the nuts as well! Cheeky buggers :-(

So, let me get this straight.
I had a spare set of locking wheel nuts in the bootHad these been in use you wouldn't of had a problem? :-dd

Spare set Stu...spare. Meaning there was a set on the wheels and a spare set in the boot :)
VT it was parked at Moulton Park. Very little traffic perfect to get up to mischeif without being seen. That said I've been parking it there for nearly 3 years now withno issues.

it's a Lexus IS200 so not that special but the wheels are the big 18" jobbies and rare as hens teeth so can't get a replacement easily :(

Locking wheel nuts do bugger all anyway, you can get them off with a double hex socket and a hammer.

That will be the same Moulton Park over really close to the eastern districts then?
Sorry to hear about the wheel mate:(
Any cctv in the area where you park?

Best of luck hun, hope your sale still goes thru ok
Damn wheel nuts.
Hopefully you can still sell your car thought mate. You've been trying to sell it now for about 15 years haven't you?
Mr Speirs
10-01-10, 11:08 AM
Yeah been trying to sell it but this time I'm okay with selling it for less than I owe on it. Gotta take the hit I guess.

Barstewards, i bet you would have liked to have caught them doing it.
I dread to think how much money i have lost on depreciation on cars over the 21 years i've held a license, it must run into 10's of thousands.
The golf i bought for 18k in 2007 has probably halved in value now, imagine what bike i could have bought for 9k ;).
Unfortunate thing we have to put up with when buying cars, not so much with bikes, they tend to level out and hover around the same price for years.
Cars just plummett and keep going, unless they are interesting.

Well I am now officially car less. The first time in nearly 10 years!!! Feels weird.
The buyer loved the car and said its the best condition one she had seen.
I got what I wanted for it although I still owe a bit more money than I got for it but its okay.
Just so glad I managed to make the car sale able in a short amount of time.

Did you report it (not that anything would be done)
Hmm Moulton Park has a lot of cameras up wonder if CCTV got anything?
Mr Speirs
10-01-10, 04:41 PM
Na, no point. There is no CCTV from where I was parked and nothing into and out of Moulton Park from where I park. Plus CCTV images are so grany at the best of times let alone at night.

Blimey, I thought they were going to bury you in that Lexus, Chris. It's been for sale for so long. Good news, although I'd have thought that an Alfa would be asking for trouble. 2 Italian thorobreds (moneypits). Brave man :D

HA oh I hope this snow is gone by the time we need to get the bikes serviced. I just realised I may need to get the belts done at the same time, I think whilst that gets done I will get a new clutch hub put on so I have 6 posts again :)
Pete do you know is Geoff would be able to supply the clutch hub or would I need to order one and give it to him?

I'm sure Jeff would be able to get a hub. We are taking in a complete clutch to ask him to fit whilst it's in.
Didn't your 749 have new belts fitted when you bought it?
I'm going to ring him next week and see what options there are if we can't get the bikes safely over to him.

Why you need someone else to fit a clutch? Dry clutches are pretty easy to get to ;-)

I have no doubt I could easily do the job but I need to either fabricate a clutch holding tool using old clutch plates (I don't have a welder or anything or old clutch plates) or buy a clutch holding tool which is £80.

The ducati had new belts in it, they were installed at 2400miles (i got it at 2457miles) however they were actually done a year before I bought it. Theoretically I could wait until May which will then be the 2 years but thought I should get it done at the same time as it would be cheaper right?

The clutch plates are easy Chris, but I need a new hub, which requires a locking tool as Britters says, some locking compound and a huge torque wrench.

You mean everyone doesn't have spare steels and a welder in shed lol :smt037
You can get a cheap welder for like £40, I wouldn't be without one.
Part there you see notched is basket and you don't need locking tool for that

Might as well get everything in synch I suppose Chris, unless you think you might do 6k before the end of the season. The difference between changing them in May or September can't be huge. The belts in ours had done 4 years when Jeff changed them and there were no signs of excessive wear.

The hub looks a bit past filing back to flat...
Actually you can buy a plastic holding tool that bolts to the crankcase for around 30 quid. Better idea than trying to hold the 80 quid tool anyway. But you still need access to a big torque wrench.
That picture was taken about 5k ago so the wear is even greater. Still works fine, even in the heavy traffic. Quite pleased as we were advised to change it on the last service. Managed to buy a complete, hardly worn one off Ebay for 90 quid.

Belts need changed after 2400 miles?
If I ever get the notion to buy a Ducati, please hit me over the head with a spade.

It's not just mileage Stu, it's age of belts. They need changing every 12k or two years, whichever is sooner.
Britney's bike had only done 2.4k in six years, but the belts were OLD!
