Have a look at this piece of hardware in the battle against the pirates, well ok, not just pirates, but anyone who they don't like.

Seriously ugly, but thats not going to bother the captain & crew

That looks a hell of a lot like the one used in "Tomorrow Never Dies"

What I was getting at is the fiction was very close to reality .

That's a hell of a big boat to deliver one little deck gun. I hope they have an Apache tucked away in the hanger.

According to my friend who has a bit of a nudge nudge wink wink job, there is a bizarre occurance with the US military and Hollywood feeding off each other, with instances on both sides of high up people seeing a film about killer robots or something and saying "make me one of those"!

Its probably a bit of both, Hollywood building a boat that is based on something that actually being built in reality. You couldn't keep anything like this under wraps could you. It'd have to have sea trials and tests just to see if it works. So someone would see it.

Ive seen a few strange military boats being built at Vospers in Southampton which were for export

Ah, the US Navy's idea of 'smaller and cheaper', the Littoral Combat Ship. 3000 tonnes and $600 million each. No Apaches alas, probably a Seahawk variant plus all manner of exciting unmanned vehicles, more than enough to spoil a pirates day. If you've got the poltical will.

"Now you're sure this things gonna balance?"
