im thinking of buying one of these:
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/HDMI-LCD-HD-ready-projector-1080P-XBOX-Christmas-party_W0QQitemZ160391716897QQcmdZViewItemQQptZLH_D efaultDomain_0?hash=item2558176021#ht_4275wt_1062
but i have a few questions about it, emailed the seller, no reply, gotta love Chinese sellers....
Right it will be used for the ps3, xbox, macbook and freeview, all of which it can support, but i also notice it states its 1080p, and that it supports all the resolutions, but the native resolution is 1024x768
the native resolution im asuming is the actual lcd resolution inside it, meaning it cant be 1080p?
anyone have a better understanding of this??

It means that it should accept a 1080p signal (which is 1920x1080) and downscale it to 1024x768.
It's a standard definition (SD) projector, not a hi-def one. I've no idea what this particular projector is like, though it should give a reasonable image with a DVD player or Xbox. I've got an old-ish Sharp DLP projector with this resolution and it can look very impressive with DVDs. Still, caveat emptor.
Edit: He seems to have good Ebay feedback. If you do get one, can you post and tell us what you think of it?

We watched things such as the Cricket, Darts, Football and a couple of Movies in HD on one at my ex's Auntie's over Christmas. It was however a Panasonic Unit, but they are well worth the money, unbelievably crisp picture.

Careful with that one. I wouldn't trust the seller for two reasons. First the giant text and over-use of capital letters and colours in their ad. That doesn't exactly suggest that they're professional. Second, I googled for that projector and *every* other site says that it's 800x600, not 1080p as they're claiming.

right fair points but if the projector is the spec which is stated on that auction it will actually be 1080p? had a look through the feedback thers no1 that seems disappointed, he seems to have sold quite a number of them

Agree with what wyrdness has said re resolutions.

Ask him how many years warranty the projector carries and how many years warranty you get on the lamp
Oh and if he gives a reasonable reply reckon it'll be honoured?
Even the best projectors can go wrong from new, they're reasonably delicate things. How much do you trust this bloke to right it for you?

Oops didn't notice there were two links, both look toss to me tbh. But it's your money, I could well be wrong might be worth a punt.

I wouldn't touch that one with a barge pole. I think that the seller is lying about the resolution.
The first one sounds like the better bet.

I think so too (out of the two), it looks like a really old sanyo....but cheaper.

Why? For £500 you wouldn't get a very big one, compared to the size of the projection
Dave20046

I'd just rather have a telly, £500 could easily get a decent 40/42inch screen and I'd place money on it outlasting a projector. And TV's are just better.
Projectors are novel but I'm not too interested in them.

I don't know how good it is. You'd have to read reviews.
I don't think that projectors are too great for watching normal TV. However, for films and gaming they're superb. I used mine for DVDs and Wii games and loved it.

maybe i should jus save a bit for a proper one, the last thing i want is huge pixels to stare at all of the time thats not in the proper resolution
maybe i should jus save a bit for a proper one, the last thing i want is huge pixels to stare at all of the time thats not in the proper resolution
Bottom line:
Anything that doesn't have a native resolution of at least 1920x1080 IS NOT a 1080p HD device. It may accepted input from the device, but it will be displayed at a lower resolution. (Lower resolution = you shouldn't waste your money on blu ray and just stick with a DVD or VHS)
The same goes for 720p anything with a native resolution of less than 1280x720 is not 720p capable.

I have an epsom projector which i paid £500 for nearly four years ago, still going strong, used everyday with my ps3, picture brilliant and not hd.
I have approx 5ft picture as im restricted due to the projector being quite close to the screen.
It would easily give me a 10ft screen with same quality.
I have a proper screen, electric rise and fall, 2.5m x1.8m.
When this goes i would defo get a hd one.

I think that's easily rigged and would take it with a pinch of salt, however I'd definitely go with an LED tv/projector if I had the cash

This is a very good projector, excellent reviews, supern pictures.

It wins loads of reviews, I would have one in my cinema room if I could afford to upgrade from the Panasonic I have now.

1024 X 768 is basically the resolution of 15" Laptop or originally the 17" CRT monitors. As said else where this monitor will accept HD input but deliver to display at its native resolution maximum.
I buy a lot of projectors for my organisation and I believe you should be able to get as good a deal in the UK. Search the web for projectors, and then haggle with a few companies. Target resellers that deal with educational establishments particularly secondary schools as they are used to discounting heavily to get the business. Don't forget though to include the VAT, If you buy overseas at this sort of money I am sure unless you are lucky that you will have custom clearance charges, import duty and VAT to add to the price.
