View Full Version : Firefox irritations

Not being the techiest person on the planet, please can somebody point me in the right direction on these:

1. Whenever I type an apostrophe FF goes into quicklinks. I downloaded what was supposed to be a patch for this but it doesn't always work, and it's driving me mental. Can type aposstrophes in this post so it's working OK at the moment but it seems hit and miss. Is there a solution?
2. FF doesn't seem to want to enable the 'remember me' function so I keep having to type all my log in details every time I tune in - irritating. On the Tools/Options/Security tab I've checked the 'remember passwords' box. Again, is there a solution?

Apologies for being fikk:rolleyes:

Then thats probably what your problem is.

Download 3.5.7, uninstall 3.6, then install 3.5.7 and then see if you still get the same problem...

Ed,

What OS are you using? Windows XP, Vista, Linux of some sort?

If Windows then I have an alternative, slightly radical solution for you....... IE8

It only does it for me if I haven't clicked my cursor in the field (box where you type).

The following relates to FF 3.5.7.

The ' to open the quick find bar is a built in FF function. The other problems could be a corrupted profile, but see the last para below. This profile can be deleted and FF will recreate, but be aware that it will return to the default configurations so any settings that you have changed will not be saved and from memory this also applies to addons. It may be worth you backing up the profile so that you can copy items back into the newly created one if required, or you could rename it I suppose.

in XP >Run > %appdata%\mozilla\firefox\profiles\

One other thing check that you have the correct permissions on the profile folder. The user should have special permissions and in the advanced tab should full control of this folder only, and Creator owner full control of sub folders and files. If not it maybe that you cannot write to the profile.

...mmm-kay... Thanks for that - I'm not sure what all that means, it's not doing it today, so I don't feel like throwing the 'puter out the window. (Yet):D

I should have been a bit clearer:

Go to Run on the start menu, and type in: %appdata%\mozilla\firefox\profiles\ then hit enter/return. This should display the FF profile folder. Right click on the folder and select properties and then the security tab, followed by selecting the advance button. Then follow the permissions mentioned in my previous posting.

Should this not work then backup the folder, and either rename the original or deleted it, when a new profile folder will be created when FF starts.
