Computer help please :)
Hoping someone can help me get what I want in my startup programs.
When I log in as User1 my Blackberry Manager always starts up but I don't want it too. ButI would like Firefoxto be in startup as I always open that.
Not sure if the pic is any help?

I don't do it like that; I go to start>run>msconfig (tap enter/click go)then select the start up tab and do ya shiz

Ok I've unticked the desktop manger which I think in the Blackberry thing. Now how do I get Firefox in there?

The msconfig tool shows you what's going on from the registry end of things, so unless you what to start playing in there, I'd just drop a shortcut to FF in the the startup folder.

If you did want to do it via registry, you'd be looking at HKLM/Software/Microsoft/Windows/Current Version/Run with the usual caveats of modifying the registry can cause your PC not to boot, your milk to go sour, and your favourite butty to sprout green mould etc

Because there seems to be loads all over the place & I couldn't see the Blackberry manager in any of them - that's why I posted up the pic.

Yep, why make it easy when you can make it Microsoft????

Generally speaking, the registry entries are for processes and services that need to run to make the PC work (think drivers, antivirus, update managers and the like) whereas the startup folder is for programs that would be run from the user environment once the PC has booted and logged in

Yep (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/256986), I very famously introduced a registry typo to our work PCs (I had to create the build images at the time - so only 1500 PCs or so :rolleyes:) that caused a few things to happen that shouldn't have...

by which I meant the registry, not the msconfig tool - the msconfig tool provides a safer way of controlling the startup actions that are in the registry as Dave said

Dont bother with MSConfig, unless you are comfortable fiddling in there.

Add/remove FF and BB thing to c:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Start Menu\Programs\Startup\

or for user1, swap out All Users for the startup folder.

firefox wont be in there unless you have actually added it manually, drop a shortcut in the startup folder

Error or a message telling you that your using selective start up (tick the little box and you wont see it again)?
If its a real error, what does the error say?
