OK I am in yet another decision making situation.
I virtually made my mind up that I was gonna apply to Western Australia for a job as that has always appealed and I am fed up with my life here in the UK.
Then today I get a phone call, possible jobs on the Bike division in UK coming up and I will help you do X Y and Z to get in if you are interested.
The job I did my advanced driving course to get into and a helping hand to apply ;) or Western Australia and giving up my dog, friends, family and all I know.
Grrrrrrr why did I have to get this phone call....... it always happens.
Life is never simple. :smt022
Rant over thanks for listening :)
Go to Oz, Shell. You'll always wonder 'what if' if you don't, and you can always come back again.
Go for it, girl!

ROFL I want a divorce after.
God it's scary .... I had made my mind up as you know Loz.... but the bike division is what I have worked so hard for and the jobs are like dinosour do do.
Am I being a chicken or do I not simply want to marry Lozzo :-k
I thought you weren't all that confident on the bike? Would riding a big heavy bike in all weathers really appeal to you?
If the answers yes then stay :D I know I would stay and do it if the opportunity was available, I would also bugger off to oz in a second given half the chance.

They have an adapted girlie version, lowered etc for a girl that is already on the division, she is my size. She started without having a bike license and did her advanced straight away.
One of the things I will be doing prior to the job being advertised is going up in my rest days and playing on the bikes ..... its also dual role, so car work too so not always out on bikes.
If this dont get my confidence up nothing will :)
Do the bike course then apply to WA. Then marry me and take me with you.
Best of both worlds, move and apply for the same type of job in oz

Marry Lozzo and stay here!
Down under...easy decision! ;)
I'd love to move to Oz, but still need a few more years experience first! Do it while you can!
I've had the thoughts of moving abroad for work ever since being made redundant in sept (ok I've got another job now) but I have made my mind up that if the right chance came I'd be away in a flash.
yes you would miss family and friends, but surely his would be a real test of who your real family and friends are. with email/Internet/skype and stuff the world is a much smaler place these days. if there was an emergency make sure u always have enough spare cash to buy a flight home at short notice.
obviously the job at home is something you have been wanting however is it going to effect your love of bikes seeing they now become 'work' tools? I think it comes down to would u rather have a good job here or the standard of living that oz brings?!?
Am I being a chicken or do I not simply want to marry Lozzo :-k
Yes. On both parts
Listen to your head. Listen to your heart. Write down the pros and cons for both and consider them carefully. Then make a rational decision.
This is a "Win Win" situation; you can't lose really ;-)
I'd have no hesitation.
Oz.
Family - well they can go visit.
Friends - you'd make new ones. And your old ones would stay in touch, surely?
Dog - get another. Are you really going to make life choices based on a dog?
Bike job - is a job riding a bike really what life is about, Shell? No matter how good it is? You'd be bored silly after a while and you'd grow to hate the bike.
British winters - if you're anything like me, you will hate them more with every passing year.
If you don't go now, you'll get to 50 and always be wondering 'what if'.
As someone else has said, if you don't like it, you can always come back.

Just remember that the grass isn't greener, just because it's on the other side of the fence. Go out there for a holiday or two and get mixing & chatting with some ex pats. Find out the real story and know what commitment your making. I'm sure Oz will be more good than bad, but know about the bad before you go. I know it's a different situation because of the level of drugs and crime and it's a dangerous country, but my friend is finding that Mexico is not the dream life he thought it would be 8 years ago when he went out there.
and giving up my dog
I couldn't do that, is there no way you could take him with you?

I disagree, life only gets complicated if you make it complicated...
Shelly just go, you'll always be thinking what if and you'll get to stage in your life where you will regret it.
My dad was offered the chance to work out in Australia, but he turned it down as he had just met my mum. He said to me that he has always wandered "what if" and a part of him wishes that he had gone and found out what life was like out there...
I have another friend who emigrated out there a couple of years ago, he said he's found it hard to settle, he's a little shy and has found it hard to make new friends. It took him a while to find a job to. Saying that he has just moved again to a more densley populated area and is enjoying it much much more now and is building up a social life and contacts.
The grass isnt always greener, but if you dont try it you'll never know...

Pet Passports are used these days, IIRC to take animals to Aus they need to pass some pretty strict stuff to get in. Not sure about the other way around. The Aussies are probably a hell of a lot stricter than the UK on pet import/export. They don't like tropical diseases or grasses accidently going in...in fact they may as well hose you down in sheepdip on arrival...they don't like people going there either:rolleyes:
A friend of mine emigrated to New Zealand a few years back, has never looked back..she says its better than OZ.
or Western Australia and giving up my dog, friends, family and all I know.
I haven't read the entire thread, but I reckon, do the bike thing for a couple or three years and then move to Oz. Your friends and family will always be your friends and family - you're not giving them up... and you could take your dog with you.
Just my 2p worth

Murphy has a PETS scheme passport for going to and from France (or anywhere in mainland europe), not sure it'd get him back from Oz though. In the UK quarantine is primarily to protect against rabies, and PETS scheme animals have been inoculated. No idea what getting an animal into Oz is like.

Had a heart to heart with a friend tonight and the recent falling out with others have made me decide maybe a fresh start is needed...... but is that fresh start on different soil? Maybe a holiday would sort my head out and then I could come back to the big wet nose with Samson on the end :)

Oz is something that pops up on a yearly basis, they usually recruit at the start of each year, well they have for past 3 yrs anyway. Then they close applications to international transfers. I have had a contact over there, like a pen pal type thing in the job that I have been getting info from. So if I dont go for it this year I could try again another year.
As for Bike job here, again its a rare job to come up and I know lotsa people are interested, I am in with a chance as I have bike license, have already shown an interest by way of an attachment to the unit and am gonna give up rest days to work with them etc.

At the risk of sounding negative, don't forget that applying for a job doesn't mean you will actually get it.
IMO Apply for the Aus job, and see how you get on. What's the worst that happens, a couple of weeks holiday to go for an interview?

Of course the down side of Australia is that it's full of smug Aussies who will tell you which sports they have beaten England in at every opportunity. And they only sell ultra low alcohol beer these sporting events.
And Hugh Jackman doesn't really spend any time there anymore.
I have lots of friends who have made the move and loved it. But I also seem to have loads of Aussie mates who now live over here, so there has to be something to be said for England.
But you will need to take a language course. The attached may prove helpful.

Remember oz has no snow thats why im looking at Canada for the snowboarding. if you want a warm Christmas go to oz if you want a white christmas stay here.
Family will visit most years, its a cheap holiday for them they fly out see the sights eat all your food then fly home.
Friends will stay in touch through E-mails and on here, facebook, myspace etc. but you will mainly find new friends easy enough, and if you meet up with people from the british expat forum they will help you start a new life in a new country.
Your dog can go with you and everything else will slot into place as you settle which can take 6 months.

If you were to move there how long would it actually take you to sort yourself out and get over there? If its a fair while then do the bike job in the meantime

Shell how many years you got in?
Couple of considerations....
1 - You stay in UK, apply for the job and get it. Nothing changes in life except when you go to work, you ride around asking Lorry drivers to see their tacho's and do the occasional escort for Stoke City FC.
2 - You stay in UK, apply for the job and fail on the ride/drive. You're in the same place you were, is the other option still open?
3 - You go to Oz after getting the job, you love it and everything in life changes.
4 - You go to Oz after getting the job, you hate it and come back to the UK. Reapply to get back in and then you're on the new pension (extra 5 years) and you're on the regular shift again
5 - You apply for Oz and hold off on the bike job. You dont get the job in Oz and you have to wait another 5 years for the bike job to come round again
Choose your own adventure....

I go. I was in the same situation a few years ago and went! Haven't really looked back. Being far away from family sucks at times, though they have been visiting in the past two months and eventually drove me nuts! Quite glad I am so far away at the moment
Moved from Oz to NZ a year ago - mainly due to work, but I definitely prefer NZ. I miss the warm weather and beaches, but not much else.

I am gonna go to speak with bike sgt on my rest days ... talk it through.
I been pretty low due to stuff going on in my life at the mo, tonight I left work and 2 people rang me on my way home to find out what was wrong with me and one guy collared me on the way out the gates.
I didn't realise how withdrawn I have become over the past few weeks but everyone else has. Said I am no longer bubbly and mad, just very quiet.
I really think it is time for a big big change and Oz maybe it. But as people have said I may not get any of the jobs, just need a new focus away from the hassle I have in my head.
Thank you all for your advice ..... I think I am gonna sit down with all sgts concerned. I am prepared to give my rest days up to try and do some work with bikes and see if I can manage a big bike and I am gonna see if I can get some annual leave and some money saved up to go on a short break.
I probably wont get either job ha ha ha then I will have to put up with sunny Staffordshire and the chavs ..... not so bad after all I suppose :)
Nic I would still hassle you wherever I was and whatever I do hun, you and Jen have become good mates who I value oooodles xxxxxxxxxxx

Shelly,
I might be a little biased, but everyone that I have ever met from the UK has moaned about Oz. The interesting thing is that when they move back to the UK, they are always back within two years to stay and never hear so much as a peep from them again. There must be something going for the place.
Best thing is to try before you buy. The two cities in Oz that I would recommend are Adelaide and Perth. Adelaide because it feels more like home. Perth because it is just nice city, but it is built on sand dunes so it is not for everyone.
If the job is long term your dog can come too if you are willing to spend the money on getting him/her through quarantine.

and giving up my dog, friends, family and all I know.
And this is the one reason peeps should think twice about moving to the other side of the world.
Fine if you can handle it, but it ain't all sunshine there.
Cost of living is one thing that peeps don't take into account, plus home sickness too.
My sister did it twice, and came back because of home sickness.

Well, I suppose she wouldn't :-(
Maybe if you dress up as Elvis and jump out of a plane with a banner from your bum saying 'marry me woozle'?
I just want to see the woozle and Lozzo finally happy :-)
