I've just read that Suzuki are offering great discounts via their dealer network for new Gladius if you intend to race it in Minitwins.

Although they dion't give figures for the Gladius they do give figures for the GSXR600 for the GSXR cup.

You can buy a new GSXR600 for £4760.87 plus VAT, (£5594 inc VAT) which on a list price of £7799 is a significant saving (30% off)

So applying the same discount to the gladius it would make it £3464 if bought specifically for racing.

In the article (In the ACU magazine) it doesn't say if the SV Sport is also included in the deal.

See your local dealer for details.

how do they know if you race it?

You need to show proof of championship registration.

The Gladius is £3990 inc Vat on the race support (but we are pending confirmation on 2010 models as the RRP has risen on the LO models). We spoke at length with Suzuki last season and managed to get Suzuki to approve the GSXR750 for racers in the Manx and also the Gladius on the race support programme for 2010 which was a massive step forwards in them recognising the bikes potential within the Minitwins. No plans to put the SV650 onto the programme.

Its a very good scheme IMHO.

All applicants have to have an ACU licence and be racing the bike in a recognised race series, mainly MRO and or British level.

If any bike is used just as a road bike then the whole scheme will be scrapped and it will ruin it for those that genuinely want to take advantage of the support that Suzuki are offering to racers.

The bikes also come with no warranty and the words race bike are put onto the V5.

the words race bike are put onto the V5.

That can be changed..

What happens when someone uses it for a year on the track and then sells it in road trim?

The words "race bike" will mean nothing on the v5 ;)

I dont think it can be changed. Suzuki list the model as being a SVF650 Race Bike and Im not aware that the DVLA can accept a request for the model to be changed on the V5!.

Doesnt matter when its sold on as not every bike can be tracked.

BUT the scheme nearly got stopped at the start of 2009 due to race bike allocation bikes being sold onto the road. It took alot of pursuasion to Suzuki to keep them continuing the scheme. I guess it only takes one person to ruin it for everyone.

Seeing as you can't get one unless you have proof that you have already signed up for a race series, I can't see it being a cheap way of it ending up on the road. :)

A seasons racing is a lot more than the discount! :)

So due to the Gladius having a bit more power does that mean that the minitwin power limit has been raised a bit or do you have to tune the Gladius down so to speak?

The gladius i with a full system bang on the 72bhp limit on our dynapro dyno so perfectly legal. Stock they are about 68bhp circa 1-2bhp more than the SV in stock trim but the gladius does have a little more grunt.

Ah ok, some reason i thought that suzuki were claiming 75bhp from the gladius, dunno where i got that figure from though lol

Suzuki may claim it and you run it on a dynojet dyno and it may well be 75bhp. But on the control dyno which is the same as ours it makes 72 in minitwin trim.

Gotcha, so is there many people running the Gladius this year that you know of so far? do you expect it to be more dominant (sp) of course depends on rider as well

Oh dear, doesnt seem anyone wants a gladius for minitwinning? Surely someone must be taking the chance and planning a punt on the new model? Lots of good reviews for the road going qualities but is anyone running one this year for racing purposes?

We have built 2 but they are going roads in 2010. Lots of interest in them though so will just have to see how it pans out and if anyone fancies running naked!:smt110

Two issues: there must be several thousand used SV's in the UK at present and all are eminently, cheaply trackable due to the availability of performance parts. How back compatible is the Gladius to the SV injected in relation to the SV injected > Carby?

You can't use sv parts on a gladius as per the rules. I'm looking at one for 2011 after chatting to Sarah about them. Budget is key or me so am going to do this year on my sv. It's like the er6 far more are run on roads than short circuit.

The Suzuki scheme is good to show they acknowledge us. I know they sell alot of 600s and 1000s on the scheme as Sarah had done ten since dec! The gladius demo I rode was really nippy and light compared to my sv. Seemed to have more mid range.
