Does anybody know how to silence a Datatool System 3 in service mode. It beeps loudly every 15 seconds and after a few minutes in the garage with it, I'm screaming and starting to froth at the mouth. The only instructions for silencing it that I've found on the net are on a Triumph forum and say, "I removed it with side-cutters and a 6lb sledge silenced it. To be fair to the system the alarm was still going off after 2 hits of the sledge. The 3rd and 4th killed it." This is looking like a very tempting option at the moment.

Does anyone know the name and address of the Managing Director of Datatool as I would like to lock him in a garage for a day next to one of his alarms in service mode.

Edit: Note to anyone who is considering buying a bike alarm - DO NOT BUY A DATATOOL.

I've just emailed this to Datatool:

How do I silence service mode?

I have a Datatool system 3 alarm. When in service mode, it beeps at full volume every 15 seconds. After a few minutes in the garage with this noise, I am screaming and starting to foam at the mouth. So could you provide me with instructions for how to silence the beeping. I have searched on the internet and most people in a similar situation seem to use the technique of ripping the alarm out and smashing it with the largest hammer available. I am very tempted to use this technique, but though that I would enquire first to see if there is another way to silence service mode.

Could you explain to me why a security product needs to announce at full volume every 15 seconds that the bike is in service mode and therefore unprotected.

Also, could you arrange for whoever designed this alarm to be locked in a garage for a day next to a System 3 in service mode, to see how they like it.

Please note that if there is no way to silence this beeping then I will never again purchase another alarm from you and will also be posting on various motorbike forums on the internet to recommend that others do not buy your alarms, due to the risk to their sanity.

I wonder if, or what, they'll answer.

I just ripped it out labelling each wire and sold it on ebay. :)

While not quite as satisfying as smashing it to a pulp rather better on the pocket!

What are you doing to the bike?

If you are taking the battery out put it in service mode and stuff loads of fabric on top of the alarm, if you are just servicing/cleaning it, turn off the movement sensor with the bigger of the two buttons

I've taken the battery out to charge it overnight, as the BEEP bike wouldn't start once the snow had melted.

I've got an integral garage and could hear BEEP everywhere in house. When I went out this afternoon I could still hear BEEP right down the street.

Why does it need to remind you every 15 seconds that it's in service mode? Do Datatool think that we've got goldfish memories? And why does it have to do it at full volume? Wouldn't a quiet beep suffice?

I've put gaffa tape over the speaker holes, which has reduced the volume a bit, but it's still quite loud. Can't hear it around the house any more though. Had to do something else I wouldn't have been able to sleep with BEEP every 15 secs throughout the night.

Can't help I'm afraid. I found my DT3 (which was on the SV) so darn fiddly and irritating to operate that I haven't had one since.

I thought about it, but I've already got a decent charger and very rarely need to remove a battery to charge it. I hadn't ridden the Dullville for about a month, but the Speed Triple started fine even though I hadn't ridden that since October. I guess that the Dullville battery is getting a bit old.

+1 for waiting for the datatool reply.

I happily ripped mine out too :)

I left it on the shed floor wailing its guts out till its internal battery died :)

Put the triple's battery in the dullville to shut the alarm up

By the way, does it not affect the alarm if you charge the battery when it's still connected?

Nice idea, but there are two problems...

The Triple is in London and the Dullville is in Wiltshire.

The Triple also has a Triumph branded and fitted Datatool System 3. So I've got two of these bloody things.

I bought the Triple new and didn't know at the time how annoying these alarms are. My previous bike had a Spyball alarm and that was very well behaved. The Dullville is a cheap winter hack and came with the datatool already fitted. Just my luck, that.

If it's just a winter hack maybe hammer time is the best option :D

I know, but the Triumph is currently parked outside my flat in London, so I'm leaving the alarm on. The main security is a bloody big chain and a ground anchor, but alarm and immobiliser may help too.

I fully sympathise with you about the System 3 alarm, I have it on my bike unfortunately and its a sodding pain in the ****. At some point this year I want to get it ripped out of the bike - best start learning about electrics and soldering irons I guess!

With my alarm though, I did find a way to stop the 15 second beeping.

What I did was find and remove the fuse that the alarm is wired up to, in my case it was one of the 10amp fuses in the bikes' fusebox under the front seat.

You should have a fitting certificate for the Datatool in your bikes' paperwork somewhere and they should state on there what fuse the alarm is wired to.

When I took the fuse out the beeping carried on for a bit before stopping - I'm guessing it was using up its' internal battery in doing so.

When you reconnect your battery you have to put the fuse back in (on putting the fuse in the beeping will start again) before pressing the alarm fob to take the alarm out of service mode or you'll risk spiking the alarm which means the bike'll be permanently immobilised until you take the alarm box apart to reset the system - another reason I want to get rid of the bloody thing!

Hope this helps you out Wyrdness
