RIGHTY HO .... I'VE MERGED THE VARIOUS POSTS THAT WERE CROPPING UP INTO THE ONE WITH THE MOST SUITABLE TITLE.

Personally i prefer the dark side but thats cos i have tatse and style on my side. For those of you lacking these subtle qualities, as said above, you can change it to a lighter version or even go back to the very very dark ages and use the old forum look.

Everything will work the same no matter what you choose but if you do come across anything not right please report it in the relevant section.

Just selecting it from the bottom left will not make it perm on your profile, you have to change it in your UserCP.

Anyway, Im not going to spend time to maintain 3 template versions, so only the new versions will have changes/updates done to them.

Well we could.

TBH we did try it like that on a test setup and it looked horrible. The black banner with the blue of the rest of the forum looked a right mess. It made the banner stick our like a sore thumb, with the black background it means the banner sits in better and gives a better overall theme for the page layout.

Personally I really like it. I didnt like Lucas' banner, but now its been seamlessly fitted in with a new colour scheme I really think it looks good.

If you are struggling with the white text on black, then try turning the contrast down on your monitor. I have sensitive eyes and it is a bit bright, drop the contrast or use the Dark Day setting and it does work.

Mind you I did grow up with MSDOS, so I am kind of used to the black background / white text...

Old style is stealth mode at work as it's similar to windows colurs.

New style will stick out like a sore thumb and make the odd quick glance tricky. Especially if not logged in.

Only trouble with the new colours etc for me are the edit, quote, multi quote etc buttons in the bottom right corner of your posts are bloody small and difficult to read at first, or have all you lot got f*** off great big monitors.

I'm keeping the dark day, dark night takes me ages to find anything cos most of the boxes seem to have disappeared, dark day's the same really as the original really but white instead of blue.

Is there any way to keep the shades of grey and off-white, with black text, that we have now within the posts, and just change the darker blues on the rest of the page, to perhaps a charcoal grey, to break the page up between the posts and the new black banner. That would give a new style, without changing the ease on the eye reading within the posts

Day one is better but the buttons/navigation are a touch invisible. Banner is great.

Change is good, its rejuvenation, all things change, in little ways over time even those that you think done. Nature wears at it, time erodes it even mountains on day become tiny little pebbles over time, embrace the change and enjoy... plus the banner looks odd with the old scheme but as TSM said you can now had 'The Dark Past' theme.

It's the grey text (thread titles etc) on black that's stressing my eyes most. I'm happy with the old default (which I have switched to but now see it won't be around long), header-be-damned.

I tried the other "blended" versions, but they look like cack and indeed draw too much attention to the screen.

I'm all for the earlier suggestion of just changing the blues to greys if that's what it takes for the new header match, but I'd much rather ditch the new header entirely and keep the current format. I read the forum daily, but I can't remeber ever having spent any real time staring at the header, so I don't really understand it dictating the appearance of the rest of the forum at the expense of usability.

Another thing........I cant even see the emoticons! The blue one especially (see quote above) - it has a weird grey around it. I dont see why the header should dictate the colour of the rest of the forum. Im all for changing and moving forward and keeping up with the times etc...but if it isnt broke then dont change it! The blue/gret was much better and much more readable.

If the colour stays the way it is then I will probably end up leaving the forum becuase it is just really hard for me to read the text and my eyes are strained enough already
