I use the bike most days, and used last this Saturday evening ....

Went to get the bike going this morning ..... battery well and truely flat !!

Have to hook it up to the optimate this evening (bike lives outdoors, so don't really use it) ..... think what with the urban riding, heated clothing, and twin headlights the battery's had a pounding recently ....

I noticed the heated clothing jack cover has come of too .... and maybe got some water in !!! :(

Anyway .... optimate tonight, and fingers crossed for the morning ..... minus 4 degs this morning didn't help ... nor did my attempts at bump-starting !!

I remember trying to bump start my Viffer.

Oh the joy, pushed it up to the top of my road (cul de sac) and let rip...almoooost.

Turned it around, pushed it up again.....and no again.

Figured, third time lucky, by this time (I'm in full gear) I'm sweating my b8lls off.

Nope doesn't start.

I feel your pain. Fingers crossed for optimate eh.

If said connection is direct to the battery, by which I mean not through the ignition switch, then it may possibly be the cause of your flat battery.

LOL, I've tried to bump the VFR on a icy road before, that nearly ended *very* badly...

Jump on and 'sliiiiiiiiiiiiiiiide' ;)

Can I suggest not trying this again?

Optimate sorted my out overnight .... bike was a-ok this morning .....

Squid, agree .... I had my hot grips wired off the ignition .....need to get these wired the same this weekend, not a hard job !! I think this was the problem .... but also ....

.... most of my journeys are town work, engine idling at lights, or just tootling through traffic ... what with the S's twin headlights always on too .....

I've disconnected one of the headlights for now too .... but will stick a switch on it this weekend so I can turn on at night, or high speed, and off the rest of the time ..

I've increased the idle speed a little too for now ...

i had the same problem with me ER5 just prior to xmas. the full gear on and bump start is not so much fun once you get one the road and it's freezing. i did find that my battary connection was loose. i also adjusted the idle but this caused problems starting the old heap !.

i did evetualy replace the reg/rec.
