This is the problem with top brass being dominated by 'accelerated intake' graduates who were the 'brightest and best' of their year. Not just in the Police, but any organisation. They may be bright, but do they have any practical experience of the business they are meant to be running?

Bloody government organisations seem to be the worst, but that is only because it is not 'news' in a PLC / private company. It's a British 'management culture' thing.

Well, that will have taken care of a couple of hours, I wonder what they did for the rest of the week, bet it wasn't catching high profile criminals.

Oh eck! I'm a manager and in principle I agree with what they are doing.

Sharing best practice over a pint can make a difference. *note over a pint*

Badging and rebranding are a huge waste of money.

But don't forget, there isn't a newspaper in Britain that won't put some spin on it.

Yep agree with you here, my organisation is full of direct entrants who thrive on this kind of thing, but who have no experience at the workface at all.

Our latest top brass, was recruited from a magazine publishing group which has no relavance to my work at all:confused:

Unfortunately, this happens in all organisations when they have run out of things to do / spend money on.
The NHS spend millions on 3rd party business consultants and seminars, many unrelated to medical.
My wife works in the NHS and is forced into going on team building seminars, or how to feel better in the workplace crap.
They shut the whole department for the day, attendance is compulsory, then government moan about the patient figures and waiting lists.
Too many chiefs, not enough work for them to do, idle hands and all that...
