Need a little help. I need some music to exercise to, now I'm on the turbo trainer pedalling away. My natural cadence ( number of times I turn the pedals in a minute ) is 75 to 80, I am working bringing this up to the 85 mark, the faster I spin the better and it'll give me a better CV workout.
My normal tactic is to set the bike up in front of the TV and catch up on the sky+ queue of programs waiting to be watched or just watch a DVD. I found tonight music is a little more motivating so I'm after something that fits in with the number of times I'm turning the pedals. So far these tracks work with what I am doing. i.e they fit in with the pedal rhythm I have got going.
Moby - Go
Orbital - Impact
Paul van Dyk featuring Vega 4 - Time of our Lives
Ideally I want to make a mix up to cover off work minutes of exercise 2 x 20 minute flat out intervals.
I tend to like electronica rather than dance, anything charty is a no no. I also like what Liz refers to as "dirge" ( Think guitar based indie stuff )
So recommend me a song or two...

Armen van buren is my music of choice when on the TT.
Anything with a quick beat as you subconciously get into rythm with it.

Send me your address I will send you a CD which will get ya peddling fast. Have to get it back off Kwak as I leant it him to make his ears bleed.
Its good for a workout LOL
A few from my 'gym' playlist:
Foo Fighters - Pretender
Chemical Brothers - Golden Path/Out of control
New Order - Confusion (Pump Panel reconstruction mix)
Stereophonics - Bartender and the thief
Not sure how they will fit with your cadence - if I am spinning whilst listening to these I am usually around 90 per minute, however tend to focus on keeping the pedalling smooth and consistent rather than trying to match cadence to bpm ;-)

Hmm, i just used to listen to Hed kandi type stuff, or if i was in a mental state and wanted to kill myself on the cross trainer, Prodigy/Old Skool hardcore/NRG. The later runs at about 150-160bpm, so if you aim for a down stroke every second bar then thats your 75-80 cpm. Might not be your kind of music but it does work.
I've also got an Arlane Philips Workout album somewhere, the Keep In Shape System i think it was called. Now wheres my Sweatband!
My favourite music to exercise to boils down to a few albums;
Chemical Brothers - Surrender
Anything by Eminem (good beats and quite angry)
Linkin Park - Hybrid Theory
MOS Anthems
Jay-z - The Black Album
If you wanted specific tracks off each I'd go for;
Chemical Brothers - Out of control
Eminem - Without me
Linkin Park - In The End
MOS Anthems: Josh Wink - Higher State of Consciousness
Jay-z - 99 problems
Stereophonics - Dakota is a good one too which we sometimes do in spinning class

Ever thought of a spinning class Fizz? - pedalling to music :D Plus you will get your cadence up to 90 odd at times.
Anything from Anjunabeats will suit you perfectly if you want some upbeat electronica/trance :) I listen to and then download Above and Beyonds "Trance around the world" show every Friday night at 7pm until 9pm and then you can download their podcast afterwards - or get it from www.trancef.com
Great music whether exercising or not :D

No I havent, TBH I am not one for gyms and stuff like that. I can use the Turbo trainer to push my cadence up and for what I am training for once the weather warms up a little then I'll need to start piling the road miles on.
Thanks for the suggestions everybody keep em coming.

well I've been waiting quite a while for a thread I can really get my teeth into...
Justice - phatnom pt2.
Kasabian - Shoot the runner
Digitalism - Pogo
Gnarls Barkley - Smile faces
Plan B - Stay too long
Justice - One Minute To Midnight
ocean colour scene - Hundred mile high city
Then move onto some higher energy type stuff (generally drum & bass)
Sub Focus - Last jungle (starts off a bit mellow but is top banana)
Sub Focus - could this be real
Phetsta & Shock one - the sun
Shock One - Polygone
Drumsound & Bassline Smith - clap ya hands
Herve & Kissy sellout - Rikkalicious
these are all fantastic tracks to work out to, as anyone who knows me in person can vouch - I'm as thin as a rake ;)
How come cyclists talk about 'getting their cadence up'? Do you mean increasing your cadence in a given gear, or just increasing your cadence regardless of gear? I guess if you always cycle in the highest gear and work at increasing your cadence you know you are getting better - is that what you do?
I personally always find the 'hill climb' part of spin classes the hardest but most effective bits, it's where I feel I'm actually working. When we do the bits at a medium setting but are told to 'sprint' it doesn't feel anywhere near as hard and any sort of technique goes out the window.
Fizz, I'm sure you'd enjoy a spin class :)

Basically yes. Pedalling at a higher RPM uses differnent muscle fibres than pushing a big gear. So you use your energy in a more efficent way. Also if you spin the pedals faster its more efficent and it puts less pressure on your knee joints etc. It helps with reducing lactic acid build up in your muscles as well.
Like I said I dont do gyms etc, I find the whole atmosphere oppresive and I dont like the "look at me I'm buff" attitude that alot of places have.
I'd rather just spin away in the kitchen. Also I have all the stuff to do so already so I'm b*ggered if I am paying to go to the gym when I can use the kit i have at home for free !

We did a lot of high cadence work tonight at spinning, want me to ask what the tracks were? One reason why I go to this is that it motivates me to have to go do it, whereas sitting in the garage on me tod, punishing myself is a bit less motivating... my turbo trainer is gathering dust...
On another note, what turbo trainer you got?
My hour long cardio programme start with the same two songs every time...
Acdc's whole lot of rosie and let there be rock... By the end of them i rocking away and pumping... possibly in a rhythm...

If you can stomach it, get some metal in a playlist with some angry riffs, really makes you push yourself i find.

Try Bristols finest, Feck() Buttons - Tarot Sport. A few 10 min epics and a stunning album to boot.
Have a look at You Tube "Surf Solar". Or "Bright Tomorrow" and "Colours Move" from their 1st album.
or try some ol' EBM stuff..... Nitzer Ebb?
If I need to get somewhere fast I'll stick on some Ministry (N.W.O or Stigmata) or RevCo (13:41 mins of Get Down blasting through the headphones!)

Yes please

Its a cyclops Fluid 2.
I think its horses for courses. I'm quite happy pedalling away on my todd. The big ride I am entered for in may is a solitary affair whilst you get groups and bunches, the climbs split the field up and last time I did it I spent most of the day on my own not talking to anybody so the solitary side of it is also mental prep to.
