We have an admin manager at work who is somewhat strange, I find her very difficult to be pleasent to but do my best.

She is know for sending blunt, rude emails but we typically ignore them.

any way today we recieved this... names changed for legal reasons

Subject: New Photocopier / Scanner

Admin are NOT MIND READERS!

If for any reason you find you have a problem with the photocopier / scanner – jamming / not printing / mis-feeds etc – PLEASE let Admin staff know.
DO NOT TUG AT THE PAPER when it has mis-fed – if you do this then causes more damage.
We will help you – but cannot be expected to know when these things happen without being informed.
DON’T just leave the machine for the next person to come along and moan that it is not working.

It is a BRAND NEW COPIER – Lets LOOK AFTER IT!

Regards

nobby mc nob

Now I was having a bad day and wrote this in response but resisted from hitting the send button... you reckon it was warrented?

Dear noby mc nob

We are all aware it is a shiny new copier, and we are all generally very careful with it, there is a chance that someone used the machine and wasn’t aware it was broken after they used it? Maybe this happened because it is a new machine and we aren’t aware when it has become faulty, or that the fault was attempted to be fixed and between trying to fix it and sitting down at the desk the offender forgot to mention it, as humans this happens.

I certainly wasn’t given any instruction on the machine and as such we have all just got on and tried to use it, I think we have done ok so far given that normally us not in the admin group can’t be trusted to put the toilet seat down.

If the next person came along and found the machine out of order and moaned about it, why don’t you take this up with the last person that used, it, after all our new spangly machine is very clever and I believe can tell you who last used it, if not, why not just tell the person who was moaning about it to “get over it” it’s just a copier, and the nice man from the lease company will come and kiss it better soon, after all its just a copier, albeit a shiny new one.

Ps, we are not blind, the use of larger letters just makes the email look like it was written by someone with tourettes.

Peace out

Alex

made me feel better anyway!

Nothing rude in that. I've sent much worse.

The response is a bit hippy-**** tho - "we're human and we forget things and it's ok to forget things cos we is all cuddly and soft so don't like nasty people pointing out that we're just too crap to remember stuff."

Yes, we're all human and occasionally make mistakes, but that's not an excuse. Make a mistake, take responsibility for it.

In honesty I can`t see anything wrong with her email... we receive stuff like that from our admin all the time. I think your reply was perhaps uneccesary as was the amount of sarcasm, reactions like yours tend to lead to far bigger problems.

EDIT: apologies as upon re-reading I realised you didn`t actually send the email.

It prob made you feel better writing it, but be careful if you end up doing it too often and one day you WILL hit send. In that situation I dare say a P45 would hit your desk faster than you can type a retraction.

I think that's a slight exaggeration. There's nothing that constitutes gross misconduct in a cheeky email. It's most likely to be ignored, then perhaps a mild slap on the wrist, before even getting an official verbal warning. Then you've still got another warning to go before dismissal.

Or maybe I'm just too tolerant :rambo:

It was to vent my frustrations at the admin manager who sends these emails constantly, she sends them on behalf of the MD without his knowledge, she is scheming and nasty and thinks the whole world is hers to rule, I feel better about things today, I can easilly ignore shirty emails like that.

TBH the MD would see the funny side tbh, hey ho, new day new start :-)

I can't see much wrong with her email other than the use of block capitals as that just annoys me. Honestly, if I were you I'd just have a little giggle when she sends them and leave it at that. In private life, someone like that would annoy the hell out of me, but work is work. We are paid to be there and to do our jobs...you should have recieved training on new equipment, but she has no obligation to be overly nice to anyone...she's just getting her job done.

I can vouch for that. Our HR bod was a great laugh and I filled in a questionnaire she'd sent out to all managers with the word "fish" as a response to every item. Too late I realised I had hit reply to all. She thought it was hillarious and luckily so did all the other managers. T'would be just as easy to do it with a rant.

Indeed you are sir,
But also if she's as scheming as 6546516465145432165165064651321651351651651561651 suggests then she'll twist it when she tells it to the MD, added to which the MD will prob also think shes a bit a of witch and so will do most things just to keep her happy.
We've got similar members of staff here, the insane really do rule the asilem.

TBH this is quite a common sort of email to get if you work in an office, and I've also seen much worse in the past.

BUT why should it be? The same info could have been conveyed in a much more helpful and positive way, rather than being patronising and irritating to everyone.

IMHO it says a lot about the general attitudes and approaches in this country that we feel that this is normal. Have actually just come back from a trip to Oz, which reminded me how helpful, friendly and 'can do' people over there are generally compared to here. Am now seriously considering emigrating, primarily to escape the pompous jobsworths and general grumpiness that seems to prevail here...

Won't gain anything by replying to the email though - except that they will probably never help you with any admin again! People like that are a lost cause, best to just leave it and let them flounce around their little empires...

We get sent similar emails like that as well and to be honest I dont mind them. Someone needs to keep those who inconsiderate of others in check...if that email happens to be sent to everyone then so be it. Im sure the admin managers know who is at fault but rather than confronting the person directly they send a generic email.

Your response made me laugh though  I knwo you didnt send it but IMO its a good job you didnt. What stopped you from hitting that send button?
