About 6 months ago I got a chip in the windscreen of my truck, I forgot about it as you do as its on the passenger side hidden from drivers view. Any whoo it survived the snow before and after christmas but on the way home last night...in the latest bout of cold weather "pop"

I now have a 3ft across crack all the way through the windscreen, bugger.

So there you go.. autoglass are correct, it just takes a little longer than the advert would let on, chips turn into cracks.

Time for a new screen ](*,)

The same thing happened to me in the last bout of ice and snow. Autoglass just replaced it for the £60 excess on my insurance, bit of a result as the windscreen is heated and about £500 to replace. Just give autoglass a ring and they do everything, no need to even speak to your insurance.

Last screen I had done by autoglass, they did in the works carpark. Great, what service I thought.

However, on the way home from Rugby that night the trim came off at 80mph on the M6 and damaged the roof on its way.

So next day into Autoglass in Preston. They were not happy. it turns out the replacement had been seated too deep. As my local place they were tasked with arranging for the roof to be repaired, fit yet another screen and a new trim. Despite it all being the responsibility of another branch.

I would not use them by choice after that.

My cousin in law fits screens, he says he's always sure to relacquer around the aperture edge when he cuts the old screen out, as they do it with a sharp knife which removes the paint under the seal. That's why you see quite a few cars with replaced screens with rust bubbling out, the paint underneath is damaged.

Something to look out for if someone in a rush turns up.

Someone was in so much of a hurry to replace the screen on my Mundaneo (before I bought it) that such a gouge in the paint is visible ABOVE the seal. Hopefully my splodgily (sp?) administered paint pen remedy will stop the rust...

Off to National Windscreens in Slough this afternoon to get two chips repaired as it happens too.

Pah, one thing that DOESN'T need replacing on me bike ;-)
