Driving along the motorway today, steady 60mph, 2 very slight bursts of acceleration, 2 very large bursts of smoke out the back, all within about 1 second, still holding a steady throttle.
Anyone any idea what could cause this??, cars an 05 1.5 DCI clio
cheers
It will almost definetly be turbo related. The 1.5dci and 1.9dci were well known for it. I had a 1.9dci laguna 2002 but I won't give you the horror stories of it.
Was the smoke black, blue or White?

was dark on the motorway but in the light from the car behind me it looked black
I am no expert to be honest but if you google it there is loads of forums. I would probably just scare you an it not even be right.
The usual suspects are sticking EGR valve, which is easily removed and cleaned or £70 to replace.
Perished turbo seal which knacker the bearing on the turbo, this can cause the sudden/ intermitent accerleration issue, as the turbo stall because the bearings are on their way out, also explains the smoke.
I say just keep an eye on it for now.
Has it done between 55k - 75k and is between 2002 - 2005?
