I've seen a few people on here have got them or owned one

i bought one for a friend today and have to confess, I've caught the bug......... it was a wreck and probably the biggest pile of poo (bar a transit) i have driven but it was soooooo much fun lol

got a spare garage sorted today so all i have to do is dust off my welder and take it down there and once the bikes finished i can see me purchasing one soon :D

Jenns dad's got one of the mini 1275 GT as a rally car.

Robbed from Garry's, site :-

"Garry decided to change seats for future events and in a Mini 1275GT competed on the 1997 Le Jog Rally. This is reputedly the hardest event in the UK lasting 4 days and 3 nights starting from Lands End and Finishing in John’o’Groats. With the very experienced Mike Sones navigating the crew Finished 1st in class 2nd overall and won the concours award for the best period car and crew"

I'm looking to buy a new one in next couple of months possibly. Are they easy to work on and get parts if you buy the old styley?

I'm unfortunately bein forced to sell my project mini (no time, can't afford to run it once built etc.)
Widey I have loads of parts I need to clear; new door seals, mini sump guards, airhorns (comedy value :) ), suspension mounts, quickshift gearstick etc. etc.

Yeah, very simple and they handle like go karts - great for the IOM...however not rust wise. It's hard to get a solid one, especially when you're surrounded by sea water.

Wideboy

yeah but thats only a problem if you want to go for a genuine rebuild as heritage pannels are expensive but pattern pannels are cheap! as long as you can weld.... if you cant you will learn quickly.

have a look at minispares.com for idea of prices!

Yeah I've got a brandnew set of front panels and sills on mine - you need to be very careful which aftermarket panels you buy - I've seen people with massive gaps and bonnets that don't fit!

Bodywork made solid, suspension renewed just needs reassembling as it's completely stripped at the mo.

well mine's yours for £400 to you if you can arrange for it to be delivered down there. Like I say it's a complete car it just needs assembling. Can take your pick of engines too, either a 850 or a 1275 - oh and it's tax exempt.

Always wanted one. Worked on a few. My mates cousin (Who lived/lives in malta) had a Civic powered Mini running slicks!!

The maddest i went in was on of the builders where i worked. He had a 1450cc fully blue printed, Stage 3 head, Clubman Traveller. Flip front, Quaife box, 10x8" Minilites, 2 1/4" Center exit exhaust, Hi/Lo's, Buckets, Quad Cibies the lot. My God it was quick...well it was back then!

I remember working on my mates changing the subframes. We just rolled it over onto its side to fix the subfames on. Much easier.

my first car was a mini cooper (in british racing green) was my favourite car ever. that car got driven hard everywhere i went! i loved when it was a cold morning and all the windows steamed up that you could reach every window from the drivers seat to wipe with a cloth!

i will own another mini one day. everytime you went out in it, it was an adventure! thats it, i'm off to look at autotrader just now...................

dont care what its like, buy it!!!!!!!!

i used to run a mini club years ago. had a 1.3i, a 850 1959 pre production mini and a ****ty 1980's one.

brill basically the reason why ive got a bike is becase i dont have a garage. if i did i would have a mini instead.

top fun. easy to work on (if you've got small hands like me) however they will drain your wallet and will never be as fast as other cars. but for fun they are great.

I have a guide on how to make goodn's somewear, a bit of water resistant pine (not mdf) , and some spray paint/vinyl covering/ stylish sheet metal and you can get good effects.

Wideboy
15-02-10, 07:30 PM
i was going to use marine ply, the outside panels bits covered with a padded black vinyl leather and the inside parts that face up i was going to spray the same colour of the car, use a gator on the gear stick and a slot for a stereo, was going to do the same for the clocks, make a dash right the way across and spray it that same colour as the car

oh i had it all drawn out .... never got into action tho  :(

Dave20046
15-02-10, 07:39 PM
marine ply!
That's the stuff I was thinking 'aqua pine'
Wood just ain't my speciality wideboy - however I know you on the other hand can't get enough...

you kinky little rent boy.

Anyhu the mini's yours for £400 and a few favours ;)

Found some more bits if you buy one from else where - sound system (4.5 inch speakers to fit in the pointless vents in the dash), brand new superfins ventilated brake drums for the rear brakes, duplex timing cogs and chains if you end up taking your engine apart.

Yeah it's been here pretty much untouched for the last year (:() so I'm in no rush, I just don't have the time to do it and even if I paid in a couple of mates to do it for me on a couple of weekends I wouldn't be able to insure it as I already have a car which I'm required to keep for work and a bike.

Yeah , block the two cool air vents on the dash off with some sealant and a jam jar lid (maybe spray some waxoyl down there) and pop your speakers in there - good use of the space .

Miss my dreams of my mini, I was going to do it dark grey (even have the paint) and was going to buy a (real) carbon fibre roof skin along with some black & polished deep dish alloys ...would have looked the dogs danglies.
