For perving.
a few days ago i had some tools knicked from work and this morning i came in and found that someone has unsuccessfully attempted to drill the locks out on my tool cabnet, we all know who it is but need the evidence
so i need a cheap, small, colour or black and white camera that i can hide and leave running over night
Thank you please

Voice or noise activated recording of video. I have one, it's very good quality. Cheap too!

How cheap is cheap? Most are a bit pricey and cheap (really cheap) ones may not work in low lght so you may not get a positive ID on your thief. How does around £60 sound?

@Bluepete's suggestion
Scratch that point, didn't read the noise activation part. Nice find Bluepete. What if he's really really quiet?
gavin... is this for the bloke that nicked your square thing?!
You said he had taken stuff from other people as well, are you all clubing together together to buy it, or is it just you?!

What if he's really really quiet?
Prop something in or on the locker that'll fall and make a noise when tampered with. Glass bottle, tin can with a few bolts in it?
Pete ;)

What sort of resolution do you need? Are you looking for evidence to fire someone, or something that would stand up in court??
Would a laptop with a webcam be sufficient? Stuff the laptop above the ceiling and hide the webcam on top of a cabinet. I don't have the details, but last time I looked some of the commercial motion detection packages allow you to run a single camera for free. With a network connection you can even check the camera remotely so there's no need to go into the room.
If you're looking for something that'll stand up in court you probably need to have a chat to your local police. Blurry web-cam images really won't hack it.
Regards,
Keith.

and yes linseed this is that pleb, im 60 quid out pocket and i dont want to shell out more

You work with someone who steals from you? Beat his face in.

Not as satisfying as getting him a conviction for theft. Don't just f**k him for a couple of days, f**k him every time he tries to get a job.
Me? Nasty?? Never.. ..but stealing from your workmates is really low.

Yeah I guess I knew the above really is the best course of action, but sometimes you just want people to feel instant justice...

Thos mini-DVR cameras are very good, I got one for £15 off ebay. The only downside ofc is that they wont be any good in the dark, is there no possibility of leaving a light on?
Wideboy

Yeah lights will be on, i know he comes in at about 4:30-5am as i've had early starts when i've been on site and he's already here unlocked and in the workshop, this is when he goes and ferrets through everyone's things, i know this because i've set up little traps and he is so nosy he cant help but fall into them, ****es about with drawings goes over your work and because we have all started locking stuff away he has taken it upon himself to break the locks and i know he tea leafs stuff as he cant help it, we call him tony treebus (sp) as he's like that old man Mr treebus that horded stuff

well i spoke to soon, he is now trying to steal a telescopic ladder. it was left here by the sparkies the other day, he moved it next his bench ready to collapse it and go into the boot of his car so i moved it back to where it was left, someones just used it and he's noticed it moved so he has put it by his bench again..... i'll be staying behind and hiding it.

could you not walk in with a carrier bag talking loudly about how it has all your gold which you're gonna send off to postalgold.com - make sure he see's/hears you...
then crap in the carrier bag and leave it near his bench? Mind you by the sounds of it, stealing poo would be right up his street

i have lost it with him loads of times, in my youth when i started he offered mw outside but wouldnt come out when i agreed which he has never lived down as he likes himself as a hard nut and as everyone saw it, now in my wisdom its more funny to whined him up so we all play jokes on him, now i want to catch it on cam and catch him on the rob

I think you may have serious issues placing surveillance equipment in a place of work without permission
