Careful when ordering e111/ehics (and other governent id-y stuff) some web companies are paying to appear higher up in google and charging a small fee for services you wouldn't normally have had to pay for...if you'd....'gone direct gov' (http://direct.gov.uk)...

That must have been handy!

I didn't actually have to use my cards when I was away on the bike. Just had them in case of emergencies

Yeah, this was an emergency; as you say I found it very handy.
I'd have been impressed if I hadn't told them I was going to greece and if I didn't need the money.

Travel insurance that actually covers you for your bike. Some only do upto 125cc. Riding a motorcycle is described as an extreme sport

yes they do, I've used it. It also covered my ex partner on the same policy.
Apparently the Post Office have started doing it too, but you'd have to ask them, as last time I did research they didn't.

France - cash for on the spot fines and toll roads.

Spain - yellow high-vis jacket (might not appy to bikes).

Switzerland - motorway sticker.

Germany - don't mention the war or bailing out greece.

Take a look here: http://www.theaa.com/motoring_advice/overseas/atoz.html for motoring related stuff.

Switzerland, cross the border not via a motorway, then use the motorways FOC without a sticker, run the risk ;)

jacksuzukisv650

i dont understand why do you need a sticker in switzerland

keith_d
01-03-10, 07:13 AM
You should have a sticker if you're going to use the motorways, but there are perfectly servicable minor roads if you're not in a hurry.

The Swiss are quite picky about people sticking to their laws. So I wouldn't want to give them an excuse to stop me and impound my bike.

Plenty of them do, but you have to pay a supplement. Cannot remember who I was with last, but I was covered for big bikes as standard.

Been using the Post Office for a few years for (big)bike trips abroad. http://www.postoffice.co.uk/portal/po/content1?catId=19300208&mediaId=19500189 bikes under Sports and Activities.

Phone your insurance company to let them know you are going abroad and ask them if they do euro breakdown cover, a lot of them do.
