I went for a blast on saturday and my 2005 sv650s with 7k.

After 20 mins of riding i pulled up as i noticed the oil light was flickering on and off. It was flickering on and off only when ticking over, but as soon as i gave it some very slight revs it stopped flickering.

The bike ticks over at 1100 approx and if i rev so it ticks at 1300 it stops the oil light problem.

I checked the oil level on the flat and the oil level is slightley higher than half way which is just fine.

anyone else had this problem.

You have a low oil pressure, possible from a leak or from soemthing else

Don't be uing your motorcycle; low oil pressure will mean oil starvation, particualrly at the top end but also likley to cause damage to the bottom end of the engine

are u sure? that sounds bad

I continued riding that day and the light stopped flickering next time i checked it 10 miles later.

Dont thing it has done it again since.

get it checked. it may be something silly. like a dodgy switch

When was the filter last changed?. does the bike live outdoors?

Not a silly question I have seen damp condense to form a thick emulsion that has blocked filters.

Doing nothing may be very expensive

Good morning all.

Damn sound advice! I would do an oil & filter change somewhat sharpish, & see how it goes.

Cheers.

Hi i only chnged the oil and filter about 600 miles ago,

K&N Oil filter and Castrol Motorcycle Oil.

The light only came just the one time when i stopped and now the oil light does not come on when i start it after starting it again in the garage.

The bikes still runs fine and i cant hear any strange noises

mmmmmmmm..... not sure what to do

might just be a sensor issue

Get it checked out. It could well be a grubby sensor, some faulty connector. But it could be something more sinister. When was the oil changed before the last oil change? I am wondering if there is or was some detritus or something that could have been present to cause such an issue, temporarily, but now swept up by the oil and dissolved

Could be a faulty oil pressure sensor. Behind a rubber cap with a wire coming out it near the oil filter on the main casing on the r/h side of your bike.

Mine was and was solved temporarily (3yr ago) by a mechanic and some soldering. No probs since. Go get it checked.

Not really 'solved', my oil light doesn't go out until the bike has been sat not running for a second or so...

The oil light should never show except when the engine is off with the ign on.
