I need a new set of boots as my 4.5 year old HG Race now have holes in the leather, probably due to my foot sweat dissolving it, nice:pukel:
So what boots are there out there with great protection and nice feel?
These will be for track riding and occassional summer blasts so don't neeed to be waterproof/super practical.
I'm happy to spend some money, but I am a little loath to shell out for a pair of Daytonas, unless they are really worth it. Something with an inner boot appeals, but this is not a necessity. So what are the models and manufacturers that I should be considering? And how have you found them to wear?
Obviuosly fit will come into this, but I want to know where to start looking...
you after something flexible or sturdy?

Something like that?
TCX competizone s
P.S ive never tried them on track but just an example

Both! I want super protective and super "feely" but don't mind restricted movement/appearing to walk in an odd manner off the bike.
Gotcha
I really like my competizone s boots and walk around in them can feel through them, but i havent tried them in a crash.
I also have some sidi vertigo's they seem to be a popular choice amognst racers and although mine are a bit big i have crash tested them and they held up well, i also used to walk in the up 100 steps and about about 5 minutes from the carpark to the class room at college for a year and a bit, they have worn on the sole and the usual marks you get from walking where they bend, but still they have held up well with yet :p
You want white ones to go with your sig?
BTW, I rate the SIDI Vertigo - but you may want to try them on first, their sizing is a little small.

Black(ish) boots for me, I'm no Star Wars extra ;)
Thanks for the info so far. I will definitely try before I buy for fit. Feel/protection is harder to guess....

Hi, I am now on my 3rd pair of Sidi's as I like the protection/support and light weight.
My latest pair "chrissie pres to self" are Sidi Vertigo Mega Goretex, mega being a wider width, Sidi' are normally small on their sizing, where I would normally have gone the next size up to get the width I now have the correct length and width.
Not sure whether they are doing other models in the mega width.
Still only wearing whilst in and around the house due to the weather, but comfort wise so far very good as they are also adjustable for calf sizing.
Bit long winded but obeservations may be helpfull.

I have quite narrow feet, so the standard Sidi may fit me quite well.

I have some Daytona Evo Goretex boots and they're brilliant. Feel great on the bike - really safe, and fine for walking about in when you're off the bike. Not really crashed in them yet mind.
If I lost mine tomorrow, I'd buy some more.
I have Alpinestar S-MX Plus boots.
They were very stiff at first in the shop which worried me but after having them on for a few miles they loosen up more.
They give absolutely tons of feel through the soles of the boots, you defo know where abouts your feet are on the pegs and you feel plenty of feedback through them.
I looked at alot of boots before buying them and the protection seem the best for me, plenty of support and protection allround.
I got to test the protection last year in the form of my bike sliding along with my leg/foot under it.
They did a brilliant job, no crushing, no brusing... and barely any damage to them. If any serious damage does occur to them most bits can be undone and replaced.
I rate them, they are a bit aqueaky walking about though.

+1, crashed in them twice, once at a fair rate of knots, once at not a lot and they're still useable.
While not water proof they're reasonably water resistant as long as you close the vents.
Only downside to them is they can damage some bikes, I've worn away the seat fairing sides on the VFR where they're obviously touching, didn't to it with any previous boots but the vertigo's stick out further and are quite bulky on the inside.

A general photo or of my crashed ones?
I'll get some pics of their current condition when I get home.

Either/Both :D
These are mine below. I have had them just over a year now and have done maybe 8k in them in wet and dry weather.

The damage is next to nothing really considering, my left leg was the one which was under the bike briefly so has the most damage, which is mainly superficial and has not effected the function of the boots.

It's hard to tell really, but basically they did a bloody good job.

My Mrs has the smx+ boot and its quite nice too.
krhall posted that someone was selling some and she got a new pair for 40 quid, result!
It's got a nice inner lacing as well as all the velcro and ratchet jobbies, is really stiff too.
Nice boot but I wouldn't pay full price for them £250ish RRP is a bit steep.
Yeah below is a picture of the inner boot. The device for tightening works really well. As you can see its basically like laces, you pull it tight and push the self locking slider down. Then there is a small velrco bit to tidy the loose ends away. Simple but effective.

i've got a pair of sidi vertigo's, have had 'em for 3 years or so and crashed in them 3 times i think. all on track days, one at about 60mph and so far no injuries. they've help up brilliantly, are still working fine and i can't wait to get them out of the cupboard again!

Well I went for some Sidi's in semi star wars colours, and loads of the bits are replaceable, even the middle of the sole (the whole boot can be resoled by Sidi too if required.

I tried on the A*s with the separate inner boot, they were comfy but having two layers I thought would get rid of the "feel", so went with the Sidis.

Comfy so far, although I'm just breaking them in whilst doing the cooking, the coolest and safest chef in Clogland at the moment! :D
They look nice
Now go and scrape them toe sliders!

I keep my toes in nice and tight, tippy toes on the pegs, so the pegs will scrape before the sliders ;)
Ahh
I dont (on road, never been on track) i feel more comfortable sticking my toes out and scraping the sliders instead :p
