I'm probably off to the States with work, I'll be there for 4 nights so should get a brief chance to hit a mall or similar.
So what's cheap out there and worth looking at?
I'm not bothered about I-phone/I-pod, but is there anything else?
I could even try and visit a bike shop if boots/gloves are worth a gander, but comparing the style of riding I do to the kind of stuff they do in Louisiana I doubt that'll be likely.
If nothing I'll just gorge myself on blooming onions, mmmmmmm....

I'm not sure how much petrol I'm allowed to bring back either ;)
On the coke front should I go Pepsi or Coca-Cola?

Coke unless you like pepsi casue soda; soft drinks out there have more sugar in.
I used to buy clothes out there, however I havent been to the US for a while so not sure whats cheap ect...Also the exhange rate to pound is quite low at the moment as well.

Timbaland, rockport shoes.
All sports stuff like nike etc, i got a cracking nike hoodie from a nike store for $16 (and no im not a chav)
Most clothes are cheaper.
Dont buy electronics from tourist areas, there are no cheaper, especially cameras, ipods etc, if fact in Florida, i couldnt find anything like that even remotely as cheap as the UK, everything was more money.

Anything made in the states will be cheaper to buy due to the lack of import and handling on them.
My nailguns were half the UK price.

Yeah but if you buy stuff then you are supposed to pay VAT and import duty otherwise its illegal ;)
Next time i go i might buy some extra batteries for drills and nail gun etc

I paid the VAT and import on them, an extra £70, big deal.
It made the last pair 375 quid :D

Which bit are you going to Tim? You should be able to pick up winter sports/thermal gear very cheaply at this time of year. And the Gap is usually about 2/3 of the price that it is in the UK.
oh yeah, McDonalds is so cheap, they pay you to eat it.

You can also mail order stuff to your hotel :)
Go to a clothing shop and replace all your underwear/socks/t-shirts :) - Walmart used to to pretty good quality for not much money.

Walmart is brilliant.
Everytime i go, i buy a watch to wear for work for around $13, they last ages.
Had one of them for 4 years and in my job they get covered in plaster, adhesive, silicone, everything, so resilient.

The few times I've been to the states I've arrived with just hand luggage. Go shopping, get a nice cheap case and fill it with clothes for little money.
As said earlier, gadgetry isn't really much cheaper than UK.
I used to buy chemicals for my water bed as well, they were $4 a bottle compared with about £20 over here.
Also vitamins and drugs (legal) are cheap. I pick up some wicked migrane tablets for a few $ for a 250 pack.

Just dont buy prescription drugs over there ;)
My wife had an allergic reaction to a cold sore and we went to the hospital over there, the drugs they prescribed were $180 :(
Bloody worked though, claimed it back on travel insurance so not all bad.

When we had friends visiting Canada from the UK they couldn't get over how cheap clothing was. We took them to Old Navy (owned by the Gap, just like the Gap, and miles cheaper than the Gap) and they bought out half the store. Since I've been here I see what they mean about clothes being cheaper over there :smt103
I wouldn't expect any real bargains over there on bike gear. Deals pop up now and again, but I've been able to afford a lot more since I've lived here than I ever could back home.

I think my missus and I cleared out a Zellers when we were there last time. Thing is, we foolishly waited to go clothes shopping and it was like 33 degrees each day, and all we had were jeans and boots (no shorts)!
