Given that we ride the big bicycles with engines in em we should be pretty educated on security.

Looked a few bicycle forums and opinions and they seem a lot less informed than people who have a motorbike to secure. What I want to know is are there any D locks for motorbikes that can be used for push bikes?

Or what is the best (small) D lock for a push bike? Need to order today as picking up new bike tomorrow.

you could contact http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=180471674682&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT him & see if he'll do a deal with you?

Got an Almax IV for the motorbike, no chance I'm lugging something like this around with me!!

Was looking for a pretty small but effective D-lock, something I could attach to the bike with a bracket ideally. The Krypronite Evolution Mini looks alright but I just reckon that motorbike security is probably of a different (better) calibre than some of this stuff.

Xena do a d/u lock for motorbikes, but they're not too cheap.

It'll make it more challenging and build your leg/back muscles quicker though! ;)

Is a D-lock the best solution? They're hard to cut through, but a chain of some sort gives you more options with what to secure the bike to. You need one that attaches to the bike, or is fairly easy to carry, which is another plus for floppy locks, because if it's an inconvenience, you might end up not using it.

Most big Tesco/Sainsbury sell them.....
I got one from sains, fits perfect on my CB as a disc lock (thru both discs) think it cost about 11 quid.
Saw one in Tescos tonight think was about 7 quid... ok is not thatcham stuff but as deterrant, does the job (and fits in the space provided for D lock under the seat)

For 7 quid it'll be made of swiss cheese and be removable with a Tesco's carpy hacksaw. DONT "save" money on cheap security stuff, at least if your bike's worth a few bob (my pushbike cost me £300, I've seen some for near on 2grand). If a job's worth doing, it's worth doing properly.

An example, shop around, there's plenty of online bike stores.

Hey, not saving money. If someone wants your stuff badly enough, they are going to have it.
If you put any lock on your bike, £30.00 or £300.00 you are going to deter the casual/oppertunist (sp) thief.
To remove a D lock of any type, swiss cheese or not with a hacksaw takes time. Deterence is the way to go. like I said if they really want it , they will have it

Fair point. But at least then you could say "I did all I could" rather than beat yourself up for penny-pinching though. Still, something's better than nothing.

I use a Magnum Chain Lock and when it is not locking up the CG125, it is locking up my two Grand Giant. It is heavy, but it is hardened and is easy to use. Chucks nicely in a Rucksack and if any scum bags try to rob you, you can hit them with it!

If you want total D-Lock security, it will cost you. Kriptonite New York (http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/Models.aspx?PartnerID=79&ModelID=12767) springs to mind, but is a few quid more than most want to pay.

Oof, but if you paid 2k for an engineless bike, what is £70? Like I said, at least you know you took all reasonable steps...

D-Locks are absolute cack , they can be broken with plumbers freeze spray , cut through with a good hacksaw and then sledge hammered but the easiest of all ...... take a pen top , insert into the lock and rotate , hey presto an open lock . Videos on Youtube show this and it is shocking . I tend to use a cable style loop with a padlock on the other end if I am leaving my Mountain Bike outside a shop , this deters a grabber . Otherwise I never leave it anywhere for more than 15 minutes and when at home it is stored indoors out of the way .

wasnt the pen thing a problem with some oxford locks?

Anyway, try Xena locks - I have been impressed bu their disc locks, and have considered their D-locks (but then I will have a mamouth unlockathon each morning!

Yeh the pen thing was for the locks which had a circular key, like the end of a biro. A lot of these are 'un pickable'.

I checked out xena but couldnt see they did D-locks, will take a look on google.

I'm not using a cable as I had to break one before when I lost the key and it took me all of a couple of seconds.

D locks are unbelievably shi-ite. Go to your nearest bike park and look at how many broken D locks are on the ground. Because of their shape, you can twist them with loads of purchase against whatever it's locked against and unlock the mechanism. No tools, and about 5 seconds to do.

Chain all the way. Almoax IV at home and Oxford Monster on the move.
