I'm going to insure my SV soon, and the only things that are different are a
~Scorpion end can
~k&n air filter
~oil and rad covers
~fender extender
~rear hugger
~tail tidy
~seat cowl
I'm going to get either 3rd party or TPFT, what would I need to declare on the insurance policy?

Can you call your old insurer and ask, then not use them? I'd say better safe than sorry. Even though the insurance is almost certain to never get used, if you had a claim against you and these caused difficulties you'd be kicking yourself for being stingy.

They share info, admiral tried to cancel a policy on me when another insurance quote I'd got had different info about the car, it was a genuine mistake so all was well but don't know what would happen if you were being dodgy.

Didn't have half the stuff on there when it was insured last year. So I'd need to declare everything, even though the only things that would affect the bike's power slightly are the air filter and exhaust? And considering I'm not going to get comprehensive insurance?

Yep you do , every insurer's different but it does say 'any modification' needs to be declared. However you'll find most (but not all!) will say 'oh that's ok, as long as it's road legal and doesn't increase performance then it's fine' but I would only proceed once they've said that line and it's on tape - however you're probably going to have to discuss the exhaust and filter.
Some underwriters/insurers point blank say no power mods - some are fine about it. Yorkie chris declared some engine mods to his insurer and said he was pleasantly surprised, might be worth finding out who that was.

FWIW I declared *everything* on my SV last time I insured it and it made sod all difference. Was still only £105
That's different suspension, wheels, brakes, engine bored out, aftermarket bodywork, race exhaust, air filter etc etc etc.
The other side of the coin is if you don't tell they may refuse to pay out if they find out (even though it makes no difference to the performance) or cancel the policy. If you ever have a policy cancelled you have to declare that and *that* bumps up your policy (note that accidents etc are 3-5 years, they ask you if you have *ever* had a policy cancelled or extra terms imposed).

Always, always declare any kind of mods to them. Insurers like to worm their way outta paying up should you have an off n if you hadn't declared mods then I can guarentee they would kick up a stink about it. Seen it happen.

I didn't know there was a K&N air filter on the bike until I had it serviced and mechanic told me lol

Doesn't work so well if you get taken to hospital and the bike goes straight to the insurance yard.
Just declare everything, people worry about it for years, then when they finally mention it wonder what they worried about as the premium doesn't increase half the time.

Declare it all, the K+N is a washable replacement filter rather than a massive power adder.

What the blonde burd said
Fact of the matter is most aftermarket stuff you change on the bike is actually cheaper to replace than the stock stuff. By rights the insurance company should give you money off. :)
Oh and I tell my insurance company all of the modifications. Can take quite a while when we are talking about the SV.

As everyone has already said you're better off telling them what mods you've got. I told my insurance all my mods including GSXR front end, paint job, Elka rear shock and Akrapovic full system and it made no differnece to my premium

Heh same here... I end up forgetting some halfway through, I'm sure they think my bike is a V6 "must be... it's got 3 full exhaust systems..."
Oh and apparently they can't put "etc" on the end of the list either :(

They also can make it more desirable... So more likely to be pinched.

Yeah they wouldn't record "its appearance" as an added security feature on the GPZ either!

What? They're great value if you want some modifications that add no power or tasteful looks :-D

That's why I used to use them. But they are robbing (what Loz said) anyway.
Well I thought I should add my exhaust to my insurance today, and I thought if it costs me an extra £100 or something so be it, at least I'm insured fully!
So after speaking to a nice lady making sure with me it was a road legal one.
BONUS!! It cost me nothing extra! Whoop!
I declared my race exhaust and the man on the phone asked if it was road legal. When I mentioned it was not he said that would not matter. When I got my insurance through it did not state the exhaust was not road legal, so they sent me a nice letter stating they knew the exhaust was not road legal but despite this fact they were prepared to insure me anyway. Just wanted that little bit of security for the 'just in case' possibility. :)

mad, im suprised they did that.
i tell them about exhausts and stuff like that, normally doesnt cost anymore money.
think with insurance companies is they are realy helpful unitl you want to claim, then you may as well be commiting fraud as they are always trying to find something so they dont have to pay.

in my experiance most of the mod thing with insurance is cost ,eg how much was was your zaust ,unless youve stuck on one that cost 500 quid more than the standard one, or a mod that ups your power by 20% or more they dont charge extra so declare everything
I just renewed my insurance with Carole Nash - declared Power Commander, exhausts and K+N - no difference to policy if they don't increase the power by 5%. Standard SV1000s make 130hp at the wheel don't they ;)
