View Full Version : SRAD Stator, Regulator, Charging sytem help! :o(
Bike died a week or two back and started with the dials dropping out and then the oil light coming on and all electrics dying. I managed to get the bike home though.
I've cleaned all the connections and it's better but the figures just aren't right.
Voltage on battery is 12.28v
@ idle
Voltage is 13.2/13.9v
Voltage with Lights on is 13.2/13.3v
@4k
Voltage is 8.5v
Voltage with Lights on is 9.0v
I have tried to test the RR using the diode setting on my multimeter and the result is 689, 671, 687 if that means anything???
I'm at a loss and am really stuck.
Based in Biggin Hill, Kent if anyone is local and could help me out?

Sounds like reg rec issue. Test open circuit voltage at alternator phase wires (AC volts setting on meter)
Sorry Chris can you explain that in a little more detail for me?

3 yellow wires come up from alternator and join reg rec. These are your 3 phases of AC that the rectifier rectifies to become DC.
You have 3 wires call them 1 2 and 3. Set your meter to ACV 0-100 or whatever is similar, put probes between 1 and 2. Then 2 and 3. Then 1 and 3.
You should get 60V or more here when you rev it a little. This checks that the alternator is not breaking down under load.
Thanks Chris, I know the gist of what I should be doing but the technical terms are too much for me, I will do this tomorrow.
Was getting around 48v on all three on the choke.
When revved I was getting up to 80v @ 6-7k.
I guess that's ok?

Sounds like your reg rec is gone then

Good morning all.
Before condemning the RR unit. Check that none of the three output wires from the alternator have continuity to earth. If any have, your alternator has had it! Also check to see if they have continuity with each other, if they haven't ditto the above.
Cheers.
Well I've replaced the RR and it's no different. The bike only charges at idle.
The continuity and voltages are the same on both RR's.
There is continuity on all three Stator wires and not to earth.
I don't have a battery leak.
Is it therefore my battery?

Hi Ipap, any luck with your issue in the end- I ask as I have a similar dilema with very little idea of what to do or attempt first- the finances aren't great either.
