To cut a long story short, i have a mate with his own engineering / toolmaking company, 4 blokes plus himself.
They have CNC millers and lathes.
Its only in idea stage atm but im thinking of getting into machined parts /accesories for bikes, he has seen his work dwindle a bit due the automotive sector taking a nosedive so i spoke to him about expanding his horizons.
I would do design work in regards to CAD and sell them, he would machine the parts and take care of all that.
Question i would like to ask, what is there a shortage of in terms of bits to modify your bikes.
Things suggested so far is
Wheel spacers,
Brake caliper brackets (ones that actually fit and enable you to fit bigger discs and calipers?
My idea, gear and brake levers with a designed to break area so that the right angles bits can be replaceable.
Rear sets, but more affordable.
Yokes.

For all you modding your bikes any suggestions welcome, maybe even some guinea pigs wanted.

Thanks
Phil

custom made fairing brackets to allow different fairings to be placed on different bikes.

A fairly priced exhaust hanger for a curvy wouldn't go a miss

Good idea but knowing what fairing would be suitable prior to making a bracket for it would be difficult.

And thinking about it a nicely fitting and not over priced machined clutch cover for a curvy

Stainless bar ends and paddock stand bobbins. Yokes like you say would be good if they're like dizzys

Decent radiator guards that don't have SV650 on them. Chain guards too

+1 on the gear and rear brake pedals. I'd like some nice ones that replace the stock ones on my R1. Not the whole rearset...just the pedals. Bobbins and bar ends are easy to do.

I did think about putting a roller ball type heavy duty bearing in the basic shape of a bar end so if you came off it would roll a bit rather than grind with replaceable rollers maybe.

Stainless bar ends would be ok, just the price of machining stainless is greater.

There's an idea for a crash bung!

Top yoke to fit '06 naked speedo and handlebars on a '04-'05 Gsxr 600/750 fork swap...
Clamps to fit '06 naked headlight on a '04-'05 Gsxr 600/750 fork swap...
And, by the way... I'd love to be your guinea pig for that stuff!
... Does it look like I'm doing that fork swap on my '06 naked?

what about the plastic infills on the side being made out of steel instead?

Has he done yokes before? If so give me his details as I want one doing.

How about made to measure stainless brackets for fairings, etc. Start with a roll of 15mm wide stainless strip, guillotine to length, trim corners, punch 6mm holes and bend in a hydraulic press (90 or 45 degrees).

I'd try some inital testing on Ebay to see whether there's enough of a market to make it pay. If so it might be worth having a web site where customers can specify dimensions and pay for their order online.

Just a thought,

Keith.

He hasnt done any bike parts before, but making them the easy bit, design and dimensioning is the hard bit.

How about rearset / jackup plates (not sure what the proper phrase is) to move your stock footpegs up a bit, back a bit, down a bit etc along with relevant rods for gearchange?

I like the idea of a cheaper set of rearsets :D

i have access to this kind of stuff too. i fancied getting allsorts made. However things like bobbins, bar ends etc can all be made in the 1000's for a lot less than we could even dream of in the uk. unfortunatly you wont make any cash out of your venture unless you design something a) different or b) of much much higher quality and tbh the things your suggesting just dont add up. one off yokes and rearsets maybe.

good idea, I want some but they seem over priced a certain seller is selling them for like £40...they're just two small rectangles of metal which have been drilled

Kind of ties in with what andy's saying too, no way can they possibly cost even 50% of that to produce...can they?

Brake caliper brackets i think can be a goer, starting with the sv, cos the ones previously on sale didnt fit properly.
Out of interest, what would a good upgraded caliper be to use?
Also, is there nothing to stop you using the sv calipers on a larger disc?
Gear shifter and brake arms i think would be a good idea with replaceable storky things that have broke off in a controlled way.

Cheers for all your suggestions
Hopefully if it works out it will benefit all of us.

They often don't. The cailper isn't intended to be hung from the outside of the lug - hence such misalignment is the norm, not the exception.

OP: Slab yokes for fitting handlebar risers on 'S' models.
