chain rubbing strip

i've replaced my chain strip tonight (took half an hour) however when the chain runs accross it it doesnt sit square on the raised section of the strip. instead it pulls across it at the front. This is worrying so im just wondering what you guys think? i've taken some photos (sorry about the quality taken with my phone)
the new strip shows the chain running on the edge of the rubbing strip at the front. im concerned about it canting the cain over and causing premature wear of the chain. the other photos shows the old softer rubbing strip and where it has obviously been doing this from new.
any input is appreciated.

I think mine also is at a slight angle as well. I wouldn't have thought the strip will have much influence on the heavier and harder chain. Maybe just do 100 gentle miles (like wearing in new tyres) to let the chain grind its own path.

i take it your talking about the s4 andy ????? if so which year is it !! because on the later models like mine a 2003 they were running a 14 t sproket on the front and 42 rear but on the 2004/5 onwards they changed to a 15/45 to get a bit more clearance on the rubbing strip to cut down on the wear.

15/45 gearing will give you better chain wear no matter what the strip is doing.

what i ment was it will lift the chain higher from the wear strip !!!

yea its got the old 14/42 sprockets on it but there in tip top condition so im loathed to change them. put the new strip on again and took it out for a spin up to squires and back. completly demolished the strip :( i think its the hugger bracket thats the issue. This sits under the strip and lifts its away and up thus if it wasnt there the chain would run ok.

So now i need a new strip (20 quid) and a way of modifying the hugger

Could you not notch the strip so it sits around the bracket not on top of it?

All the strip does is stop the chain hitting metal on the swingarm. Is it doing this?

yea i thourght of that but the last one wore through where the hugger bracket was putting a groove in it!!! the strip is stopping it hitting the swing arm but after 100 miles its 1/2 the thckness it was. I'll keep an eye on it and see how we go. I think modifying the bracket is the way forward tho. just not sure where to reattach it as im not fancying taking the swing arm off to tapp it properly......

Think yourself lucky, on most bikes you have to take the swingarm off to replace the slider!

Could well be, it looks like it pushes the strip up, and the chain as well! Try cutting a slot in the back of the rubbing strip, as someone suggested earlier, otherwise remove or reposition the hugger and mount. Seeing that I don't think you'll get away with leaving it, if the chain goes through the strip it'll hit that bracket and might damage the swingarm.

yea well cutting a slot in the stip is easy but then it ears through and onto the braket. its already started wearing a groove in the bracket :(

i could do with changing the hugger bracket but am not sure where to move it to. and/or if it needs that bit. i mean they cant be subject to too much force can they?

Bummer! Can the bracket not go under the swingarm? You may be able to do without that bit, if the hugger stays still and doesn't flop about. Earlier in the thread someone mentioned bigger sprockets both ends, maybe you'll have to store the hugger until you need a new final drive, and try again. Shame, looks a nice mod from the bit in the pic.
