Ok, then, here we go again...

Who fancies a rideout the first weekend in May, Bank Holiday weekend.

Its my birthday on Saturday 1st May so i thought we could have a birthday rideout seeing as i have no friends and the kids will be with their dad :-(

The plan would be to meet up mid region, venture west to mine (Sawtry, on A1) for bacon rolls, birthday cake and tea (and fuel, but im not paying for that!), then end up mid region again, or any madlanders could head back home from mine.

Poll should be up top, its not legally binding, but if enough are up for it, i'll offer up a suggested route later this week. You can tick as many days as you like. Come on, you know you want to... :p

Well this is looking like a go-er so i'll come up with a possible route.
The TV camping weekend is down in Wiltshire, if thats more popular then im up for it (kids weekend at their dads), but i guess that'll be difficult for you family guys so i'll plan a days rideout and we can take it from there xx

Provisional route http://maps.google.co.uk/maps/ms?hl=en&ie=UTF8&msa=0&msid=118181852013899951834.000481acf7399121297d4&ll=52.301761,0.093384&spn=0.418207,1.234589&z=10

Ive started it at Red Lodge again cos that was pretty central for everyone. Then there is a pit stop in Sandy for fuel and a fag (and Seggsy can pop home to glue back on whatevers fallen off his bike :-)), then onto chez moi for tea, coffee, birthday cake and more fuel if needed. The B660 to mine is fab and a popular biking road (we did a small part on the hunny trip) but then the roads from mine back to the transport cafe are slightly quicker to get back within a decent time.

It will be a full days biking including stops, so you'll need full day passes!!

Your thoughts please .....

Seggons
13-03-10, 04:55 PM
The start of that route looks ok, then end is looks ok but the middle I personally don't think is brilliant. The B660 from Bedford to Kimbolton is fairly mondain. Alot of that is 30's and 40's with the odd occasional speedy bit, it's good after Kimbolton though.

So it doesn't look like I'm trying to criticise without adding input I also toyed around with a route. The only downside to it is it finishes at KJ's rather then have it as a middle stop.

http://maps.google.com/?ie=UTF8&hl=en&saddr=52.07703,0.44638&daddr=51.96975,0.45169+to:51.95349,0.48612+to:51.9 7957,0.58711+to:52.06633,0.72724+to:52.08782,0.682 09+to:52.07893,0.58374+to:52.14666,0.55407+to:52.1 5777,0.55446+to:52.19108,0.51895+to:52.22665,0.483 60+to:52.24767,0.40858+to:52.30947,0.38266+to:52.3 4664,0.21893+to:52.42148,0.09863+to:52.38237,-0.00079+to:52.37777,-0.09415+to:52.45993,-0.12039+to:52.47375,-0.24417+to:52.43353,-0.27986&f=q&om=1&z=9

If people want a longer ride the above could have a bit added to it to make it more interesting and longer.

That's the problem with us SP, we're not really EAR, so very often have to travel a fair way to get to the meet point. Wouldn't be so bad if the roads going over there weren't so boring. Well unless you get up early and have the time to get off the dreaded A14.

I came back from the last one via the a14.

It was absolutley soul destroying, even when Mike and I were filtering along in the dirt on the central reservation...

Even upping the pace well past *** was boring!

And me... dont forget me!!!

Ferrero Rocher :pukel:

It doesnt have to be my rideout, im quite happy to go with anyone else's suggestions, im just trying to get us all together again before September :p

Red Lodge seemed like a good starting point because the furthest any EARers had to travel was 50ish miles. It is a shame that the A14 is so dull though, but worth it for a good rideout.
I thought, with my route, that any madlanders could finish their rides at mine if they wanted and head back home from there to avoid the A14 back from Newmarket.

I dont really know how good a route it is, ive done most of the roads, but never all at the same time. Personally i like faster roads than the very tight twisty's, so im definitely open to other peoples suggestions as to how it could be improved.

Top tip, if you go onto bottle feeding, don't discard the bottle cleaning brushes. Good for general bike cleaning duties, but don't then use them for cleaning babies bottles!

I have to admit its quite tough at night - during the day he is a little angel but he seems to be quite alert at night times :( We were up for an hour every 2 hours last night and couldn't seem to console him - brought him downstairs and I think he just wanted to up looking around - at 2am!!! Still other than that its going well, Amy is having to express the "good stuff" but at least he is getting that rather than formula - we are both fed up of listening to the "whrrrr whrrrr whrrrr whrrrr" of the pump though!

Not a bad suggestion KJ or Red Lodge to Sheringham. Cup of tea at the North Norfolk Railway?

Ok, well seeing as im keeping my bike :-) (and hopefully my boyfriend too :-)) i think we need to get this organised as its only a month away!!

I think MZ's idea of tea in Sheringham was a really good idea and i think it should be Sunday 2nd May as that seems most popular, and hopefully Ian, Stew and Traders will be able to come then too.

I have no idea of the roads to Sheringham so maybe some of you guys closer to there could suggest the best roads. Im not sure if im supposed to lead cos its my idea, but would VERY HAPPILY let someone who knows the area (and probably rides a bit faster on the really twisty roads!) lead instead ;-)

Dont know :-( Reg/rec was deffo not working properly so replaced that and hoped all would be well and it had been up to yesterday.
The bike hadnt been out for 12 days and when i went to start it yesterday the battery was drained so i assumed it must be the alarm slowly draining it and decided to get a new battery and remove the alarm. Fine.
All was good on the way up to Yorkshire, stopped to refuel and started fine. Stopped for a break and started fine again. Next time i stopped for fuel (after 250ish miles) went to start it and dead as a flaming do-do!!!

If it was the alarm draining the battery then it shouldnt have failed the second time. I know the alternator is fine cos i checked the voltages when i replaced the reg/rec. My optimiser has a light that should come on if the battery is knackered but it doesnt so i assume the battery is fine.

TBH i dont know WTF to think!!! Any ideas anyone???
