Just been reading the post about accountants and out of curiosity wondered what letters people are allowed to use after their name
as in:- CPC[Int],MIRTE,ONC[Mech],CG[Haz]and MIFF being some of mine that I have never used but all relevant to the job I used to do----

After my degree I made sure that I used my B.Sc. Hons, but these days if I get a letter to JayneFlakes B.Sc. Hons, I know it is from my Mum! Both of my siblings have a degree too, although my sister has other stuff and a PGCE too, but I don't think any of us use our letters for anything other than a fully formal letter. :smt017

I only really use mine on my CV and on web forms where the computer fills them in automatically for me (Still don't know why it does that though). Mind you I did write to the MOD a couple of years ago to make an official thank you to a Naval Officer, who was going to come and talk to my Human Rights classes I was running, I used all of my letters then because I was writing to high ranking important people. :D

Also I have just checked and it is on my Driving license too, I am such a nerd! I would not use any of the others though.:smt028

I imagine that we have quite a few B.Eng, M.Sc., B.A. and ever a few PhDs on here though, you lot do strike me as a bright bunch and I so hate talking to the proles! :smt081

I don't have any as of yet.

One that I would like is ICAEW just because it looks so exec. However, this is pretty hard to get because of the way you go about getting the ACA qualification (through an accounting firm with a training contact and registered with the ACA) - It's a lot easier to do ACCA.

Got no letters, and not got a lot in the way of qualifications either. My school reports are littered with "loses concentration easily", "constantly looking out of the window", "prefers to sit and doodle", "doesn't pay attention." I left school with little confidence, and not much else.

Thereafter, give me a Service manual and a piece of equipment and I'd strip it down, and when rebuilt it would be better than new.

Even today, 30-odd years later, I get by on on lots of commonsense and an ability to motivate and support a good Team - I bask in their success.

I currently have BA (hons) after my name... however I have never use it!

Once I complete my professional exams I can have GRAD.ICSA after my name.... within a couple of years I have submit to become an Associate (ACIS) and following more years practice I can then apply to be a fellow (FCIS) however I need 8 years of work experience at a senior level for that!

I currently have ASI - Associate of the Securities Instiute, but am now starting studying towards ACCA, so in a few years will have that.

Seems we have a very diverse group of clever people, but like most I never ever used any of mine as I worked for myself for over 35 years

I'm just a boring old BSc (hons). I think I could add a few more by joining the Chem Soc. but it's just not relevant for what I'm doing.

Loads I can put after my name because I am awsome. Never ever do though.

There is some people at my work that have a rediculous amount of stuff after their name and never fail to get it on every email/letter/business car they send out. They are all pretty much your stereotypical jobs worth though who think they know best but really havn't a clue.

Some employees cost the company £2000+ in expenses for professional institution subscriptions.

Mine cost just over £300 combined. I would not have them if I had to pay for them out of my own pocket. I only have them because the business requires me to, hence they pay for them.

Some people go right over the top quoting all qualifications and recognition. The most important to me are to show I'm a chartered engineer and part of the Institution of Mechancal Engineers, so I put CEng, FIMechE.

Normally these are in a smaller font, but my current business cards were done by some fool who put everything in one line at the same size. This is handy as I do work in China and people there think I have a very long and wierd name.

Meh, I quit Uni so all I have is a PC before it and an HNC for after it (in Policing (seriously) and hopefully as of next year an HND in it.)

To be honest, when I do my degree again (in a couple of years time through Open Uni or somthing) I probably will only use my letters in formal things. Wouldn't use them right left and centre though.

Yup, that is something I seriously looked into although Rigging for the entertainment industry doesn“t have the same ring to it.

I suppose I could BSc (hons), but in truth never have.

I did once question a guy at work who had a name plate on his desk as to his qualification.

The plate read :- R Simpson H.A.C.

turns out to be hairy arsed contractor.

I thought that this quali came under IRATA (http://www.irata.org/), maybe I am just horribly out of date. When I had not long qualified with SPA, they wanted us to use a similar double anchor that IRATA folk had to use. This would have made rigging a crag a nightmare so hopefully it was dropped! :smt081

I did MLA too and did want MIA or MIC, but I got old and tired and decided that I needed to let my body recover after years of damage and ops. :-({|=

Would you like it to be WPC, or are you one of these lefty, tree-hugging, politically correct, one-armed, lesbian, single parent, mixed race lovers?

I am reporting you to the thought police. You missed out any religious connotations. Do you have an issue with beliefs amongst the workshy?

ONC, soon to be HNC in a couple of months, then in a couple of years it will be MSc.

I think I'll only ever be using the highest qualification one I've achieved, and the professional body I'm associated with.

The only letters ever likely to be after my name are R.I.P. and hopefully that won't be for a few years yet! I do appreciate the need in the business world to sometimes put qualifications and/or professional associations after a name, but one of my real pet hates is where people put them in other correspondence. I would much prefer to judge someone by what they write in front of their name rather than after it.

Yeah - I agree. I'll only be using mine for work purposes!

Once I've finished studying, I'll have a lot. But the mention of them will purely be restricted to business cards and perhaps Linkedin. People that have their letters on signatures on emails can f*ck right off.

No, I don't want to be a WPC nor do I wish to wear a skirt and a handbag as part of my uniform.

And I am right handed, don't hug trees, not overly politically correct, two armed, heterosexual, daft Scottish girl....as well you know Loz!!:smt081
