View Full Version : This a nation of animal lovers, right?

Well, we may be, but despite the fact that they have rejected a scheme to appoint state funded lawyers to represent animals, it seems the Swiss are way ahead of us:
See this link here. (http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/europe/8554012.stm)
What really stands out is that the Swiss had the opportunity to choose, we don't even get the chance to have a referendum on matters that presently seem more important than this.
Sidders, Democracy may not work but it works better than the other systems....what people seem to misunderstand is that our system only works *marginally* better than other systems...which is to say, badly.

We've given democracy enough time tbh, all it's got us is partisan politics where the two main groups are either comically opposite or the same thing underneath the slogans, with nobody truly representing the people
I reckon it's time for a benevolent dictatorship...
Who wants to help me overthrow the government so I can set myself up (PM if you don't want to say on the public forum)

In a nation of increasingly stupid and ill-informed people, the fewer referenda the better in my opinion! Certainly spare us from pathetic animal lawyer cases like this, I'm glad we heard nothing about it.
benevolent dictatorship...
I'm interested in how benevolent your dictatorship will be if I don't do what you dictate  If you don't make me do it then you're not dictating; if you make me do something I don't like then you can't be benevolent. Surely an oxymoron...

Benevolence: desire to do good to others; goodwill; charitableness.
I know sometimes I don't like things that are good for me, but in the wider context....you're wrong.

Just because you don't agree with it, doesn't mean it's not good
There's nothing about a benevolent dictatorship that excludes democratic process such as referendums on national issues, so you can have your vote if you don't like my proposed policy, just make sure you vote for the right option or I'll have you shipped off to the camps:smt039

The joy of being in Amnesty is you learn how to do it properly, none of this woosy hiding the bodies. If you get every body to do it, every body is guilty and no one can claim they didn't do it. I believe Argentina tried it while under military rule.

You may be right about this particular referendum, as it may not seem like a good use of public money and time, but, even if you consider such a referendum a waste of time the fact is that the Swiss are getting a choice, they're being asked how they feel.
We're not. Even on matters of significantly greater importance.

I'd say it would be better to "clean the streets" late at night under cover of darkness when most of the "litter" is congregated on street corners with bottles of white lightning, one grenade and you'd have lots of "refuse" to pick up

This is nothing.Totally bankrupt Iceland has just held an expensive referendum on a an agreement to pay back some money to Britain and Holland. This despite the said agreement no longer being on the table as it has been superceeded by a different agreement. Now that surely is a waste of money they havnt got?

It's quite a 'social engineering' project you're considering. I suspect there's more support for it than voices to be heard though.

Here, apathy rules. How many people will even bother to vote in May. Yes I know there are arguments about not liking anyof the parties and so on, but lack of engagement in the political process is one of our greatest weaknesses.

Agreed, but maybe it stems from the politican not listening to the public. If they don't listen to us, what's the point?
I'm not apathetic, but does seem to me, that Westminster just decides whats best for us, without asking.
I do go and vote

Should we legislate so that people must vote? With postal voting etc, it is very easy to ensure your voice is heard if you want it to be.

Seems much of recent policy making has been in response to terrorism, so to get them to listen to you all you need to do is start blowing up public buildings
Blow up the right ones and you could probably coerce them into coming up with the laws you want...

Or they blow them up, then claim new laws are needed to protect you. They capture some "terrorists", but never send them to public trial, but have them tortured and executed to protect us. But it is done in countries that do not subscribe to our "wishy washy" human rights, so they can pretend to keep their hands clean.

It's simple
We call it "Intelligence Restructuring" and say it'll increase the nation's average IQ...
Then we ship off everyone with an IQ below 100 off to be reprocessed into fuel pellets
Repeat it every few years and we'll be left with the cleverest members of society...
And lots of fuel...

Soylent Green surely, when the proles are banned from owning private vehicles or having electricity after 2200 hours, why will they need fuel? They can eat their Soylent Green and be happy. Not only that, the numbers of them reduced by cleansing will go towards making sure that we will have plenty of fertiliser! :-?

Proves my point, although it may be a little tenuous.
What we need now is a form of nationalised gambling, like some kind of lottery where the proles can spend their hard earned money on dreams never likely to come true. Then give them a televised national sport that they can follow, chanting like imbeciles, quacking like ducks to use the newspeak term.
Before long you can let stuff slip through the news, while appearing to undertake the rules of Governance.

Can i be in charge of the policing please Jayne.
My ideas are simple, no "fines" will be imposed on those who drive badly or too fast, quite the opposite. The police will pull you over for being good on the road and award you with a small cup of jelly and ice cream. Flavours of your own choice too.
Criminals will be taught the error of their ways of having whatever they ahve done to others done to them but just a little bit worse. Those who cant live in our Utopian society wont do jail time they will simply be shot into outer space. Without a ship to go in, just attached to a simple rocket that can get to outer space and then fall back to earth to be reused.

Sounds expensive and also they would go as a martyr, the party cannot allow that. Every one must love the party and anyone who does not will be altered until they do. Only once the Party has won the fight over the individual can they win the fight over the masses. Once you love the party, you can be cleansed. A simple shot in the back of the head will do, but you will have to pay for your own torture, the longer you keep going, the more it will cost you and there is no escape to Brazil for you once you are in that chair.
