Is it just me ??? or does your bike take over your life ?? .... and does it turn you in to a right wet-maintanence-blanket ???

It feels to me that I spend all my time now planning what to do to the bike, doing it, cleaning it, maintaining it ..... it a right bore !!

Buy a car - drive it !!
Buy a bike - panda over it like its made out of tissue paper ??

Even my neighbours look at me strange these days as if to say ..... 'what the hell are you doing to the bike now ???!!!'

... and I don't think I care about my bike that much ... I use it everyday, and certainly don't wash it after every ride, or check the tyre pressures every day, etc, like some !!

Everyone needs a hobby :)

I try not to bore anyone unless they bring up bikes first. ;)

I have my sensible bike (VFR750) which I do virtually nothing to, then I have the SV which is modded to hell and I keep thinking of new stuff to do to it. Then I have a top secret project. :)

Hmmmm....the only things I plan are when to ride it, and the next service date.

Then again, I'm not one of these clean types. I'd much rather stay out on the roads an hour longer, than go home and clean it!

Biking does take over you life. When you're not riding, you're reading about it.

In fact, it also has detrimental effects. I used to looove driving my car. Now I just kind of enjoy it at best because I feel like a chump in a cage and its soo dry in comparison.

I find the girlfriend doesnt understand the extra maintenance needs of a bike over a car, bearing in mind she cant even be bothered to check her own washer fluid.....I pointed this out and wasnt very popular for a while.

She also gets moody whenever I do something to the bike, I was cleaning it, doing the tyre pressure etc at the weekend, came inside afterwards and she was like "youve been ages and im bored" and I was like "im the person that been out freezing my nuts off, youve got a TV, Wii and PC to keep you entertained in here".

Please dont take this comment as me being a horrible unfriendly person but you both need to get get better girlfriends by the sound of it.

FFS she should love the person you are, enjoy you as an individual who does his own thing and thats what makes you YOU, not to be a carbon copy of her and do everythign she wants to do when she wants to do it.

You've been ages and i'm bored? Well go find something interesting and usefull to do with your time them lover, like i'm doing here.
I bet neither of you fellas moan at them and say you been ages and i'm bored when they are doing their hair/reading Glamour and painting their nails etc do you?

Biker chicks rule, simple fact. They understand why you do what you do and even if they dont know jack all about bikes they can at least sit with you like a nurse in an operating theatre and pass you the spanners etc you need when you need em. I love biker chicks!!

I'll agree with that!!:p Except around here its more frequently him passing me the spanners, and me telling him to go and get leathered up cos im going for a ride and he needs to get off his ar$e and come too!!:p

I will never be one of those people who has to ask permission to ride, when my kids are with me i totally ignore my bike and devote my time 100% to them, but when they're at their dads its me and my bike and no-ones gonna stop me!!:riding:

ditto

and ditto ....

I realised early on "If you can't beat them, join them!" and haven't looked back.

Surely if the missus don't wanna hang round while you doing the bike then she should be out shopping or having coffee and muffins with her mates!!!

What about them? Size? Surface treatment? Honing? Break in procedure?

I just worry about my own bike, and talk about bikes with people who I know like to talk about bikes. Maintinence is something I am concerned about, and keep on top of things as best I can.

ostly though I like listening to other peoples tales, I don't really have many biking stories to tell. And when I start talking about stuff I tend to want to get vey technical, which pleases my dad....especialy when is about intricate parts of an engine

Break in procedure?

Ride carefully for half hour, change oil, thrash the tits off it, change oil, ride as you see fit

no?

its a can o' worms :D

Gabriel2k i gotta hug you man! - Want me to clone myself so you can have a hot girlfriend !??!!!! lol only kidding hun i'm sure she's a gorgeous lovely bird really

silly thing this but it does vex me how some chicks get though - but then i'm not really a chick i guess proper swing climbing tom boy lol - but with nice soft bits too lol

I can never understand girls getting up tight about these things - like if the straightners were broke believe me you would feel her pain lol and you would have to 'be bored' for weeks till the straightening situation was rectified lol.

I get all excited with a guy getting all greasy over a bike too lol never bored! oh and i get even friskier checking my own oil and washer bottle and doing my Kylie mechanic pose hehe he hebut then i'm a freak lol :p:p

rant over hugs to all !

Jebus, if you came round our house on a weekend you'd be wobbly-kneed for the duration. There's always one of us up to our elbows in some bike or other throughout the whole time

Well I'm an anorak, and I couldn't give a monkeys who thinks I'm a bore with my bikes. My interest in bikes at the moment is zilch, but thats understandable because if I think about mine, I get exceedingly frustrated at not being able to ride.

Theres one proper boring anorak on this forum though.

YC.....we chat bikes rather a lot when hes up here obviously, but bloddy hell when he gets on technical stuff that only he knows what hes on about, I suddenly feel my eyelids droopin....hes a right geek.

Think he needs help:smt081

I find the best way to go is to have a girlfriend over winter, when the bike cannot be ridden as much and then ensure you are single for the summer so you can get maximum 2 wheel time!
Everybody wins....

I have the problem of talking about bikes too much, although now I'm at uni I've found plenty of like minded people so I can have an outlet.
As for girls not getting it, well most people I've been out with have been cool with it, but its difficult to get them to understand how ''I'm just going to drop something at my mates house'' turns into a 6 hour rideout.
