Not got one loose, i can take a pic of the engine cover if you want:D
Looks awsome, must be an incredible amount to spend though, even down to the bodywork etc... then theres standard levers!
Still awsome

where the RSV4 fairings easy to fit? Would they go onto a curvy easily? (probably look a bit wrong though). I noticed there is no rad hose going into the engine cover on the right hand side of the fairing, has the rad not been fitted yet?

Looks SWEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEET
Oh and one thing I noticed. No hose on what I presume is the water pump? :-?
It's lovely, I would really like to take that on the road against a few other bikes just to see how it works on the norm, I bet it would be a cracker to ride.

Thats the rear of Steve's Thunderbike.
Dyno ETA for next week..although generally the first few runs will be meaningless as generally they dont come upto power until after a meeting especially as this was built from a brand new engine.

13-03-10, 05:50 PM
Besides the obvious bits like wheels and subframe, how did you get it so light?
fastdruid
13-03-10, 05:58 PM
Removal/replacement of subframes and swapping of forks are the biggest. Along with removal of the road going electrics[1] and things like the sidestand etc.
Mine (even without those very very very nice wheels) and the curvy frame (which is heavier than the pointy frame) is silly light in comparison to std.
Druid
[1] As an example I took out 1/2Kg from the NC35 wiring by having a 'racing' loom rather than stock. That's not including the weight lost from not having lights, indicators (and all the mountings for them), horn etc.
yorkie_chris
13-03-10, 06:47 PM
Have you weighed both frames (I know suzuki #said# they saved weight)? Zadar?
Spikenipple
13-03-10, 07:15 PM
Fair enough Fastdruid, sounds good. I'd love to lighten my SV. Maybe once I get some money after all the things I have to pay for these days I can start pimping my bike a bit; I've only done one trackday (at Oulton) but there's no doubt in my mind it's something I want to do more often. I want to buy a cheapie road bike and track the SV.
fastdruid
13-03-10, 07:30 PM
Have you weighed both frames (I know suzuki #said# they saved weight)? Zadar?
I've never had it that stripped. I'm just going by Suzuki's claims that it is lighter.
Fair enough Fastdruid, sounds good. I'd love to lighten my SV.
Its tricky if you're keeping it as a road bike, best bet is to fit stuff designed for supersports stuff like the GSX-R but the heavy bits are SV specific and the lightweight versions are track only.
Druid
Have you weighed both frames (I know suzuki #said# they saved weight)? Zadar?
Both frames weight same, both swingarms weight same.
Spikenipple
13-03-10, 09:12 PM
Well if I could get another roadbike I wouldn't mind making the SV track only, however if I wanted to ride it on the road all I'd need to do is stick a numberplate and the side stand back on ;)

Looks great! Can't wait to see it at snetterton best sv I've seen. Good luck
New clutch ramps are 33 degrees.
What is that suppose to do for plate problem?
Fact they have new clutch mean they admit there is problem with old one then :-P
Fact that Suzuki designed the SV650K3 and subsequent bikes says there was a problem with the previous models then? ;)
Looks awsome, must be an incredible amount to spend though, even down to the bodywork etc... then theres standard levers!

What's wrong with standard levers, they work don't they?
Our old ZX-10R race bike only had a shorty Pazzo lever on the brake side because that's the side Danny traditionally falls off. In 4 years it never got damaged, but I never had to replace the clutch lever either, even after he broke the clip on after falling off at Graham Hill bend at Brands

Fact that Suzuki designed the SV650K3 and subsequent bikes says there was a problem with the previous models then? ;)
Yes, too expensive.
Problem with clutch also expensive but for the wrong reasons :-P
Way I read problem, it is not extra bhp causing issue at all since they are not slipping under load. Plates get shredded with standard engine. The problem with the "gen 2" clutch is pretty well pinned down to being an issue with where the hub lifts the pressure plate.
Changing ramp angles will not help unless they also fixed problem, ramp angle just changes the force component working to crack the clutch pack. Lower angle means more "leverage" in effect to open the pack. This might make it work better with higher capacity engines, but I don't know the earlier angle.
If I was being cynical I'd say the angle change is marginal and this is an under the table fix for the problem without officially admitting the problem exists. Yoyo and Sigma both sounded pretty defensive, basically blaming it on rider/mech abuse by putting too many ponies through it with weak springs.

How do you racing guys cope with a new motor? I assume that you dont run it in for XXX miles. Is there anything done during the build to lessen the chance of an early pickup/seizure?
Cheers

Just followed that link, terrible news that...
Going into hospital on Thursday 15th April (ironically my birthday!) to get the shoulder put back together under GA. Ah yes, the joys of racing ... ;)
Here's the 'after' x-ray. I manage to get a piece of free Ti! :thumright:

liking the TI though :P
Sorry to hear about this.
I did a similar thing Jan 09. Not bike related. Didn't have the op though. It does get better - although make sure you do the physio exercises.

Had to get rid of the K9 BPF fork internals because they were utter sh1te and put in some 30mm Ohlins internals (thanks Steve).
Steve Jordan also set the forks up and tweaked them on the track. Bloody hell, you can be the mad axe man on this bike - all I have to do now is to learn how to ride it properly. :D
Got a 13th at Brands but that was a bit lucky TBH because I haven't ridden a bike with clip-ons within living memory! F*cking amazing bike.

In the OP it said "ohlins internals" in the forks?
Was this some sort of ohlins kit piston for the BPF* you had, or stock GSXR setup that was sh*te?
*i.e not funny cartridge like the ohlins 30mm

The OP did say Ohlins internals in the forks, but we tried the forks with the stock GSXR internals which turned out to be sh1te which is why we put in the Ohlins 30mm kit and I sold my wife into slavery to pay for them. ;)

Out of curiosity, in which way were the BPF innards sh1te?

It was because the bike always had chatter when on the side no matter what was done with the air gap etc. Basically the bike is too light to make the forks work properly (it weighs 151.8kg ready to ride but no fuel).

Steve Jordan (Ohlins technician of Steve Jordan Motorcycles [of course]) tried everything but couldn't make them work. He even took the bike out at Cadwell ... and had to keep picking the bike up off his knee! :smt009
(When I went out before him I wasn't happy putting the bike on its side, and told him so. I didn't know what was wrong but I had absolutely no confidence in the front end).

Still, BST is not exactly a cheap alternative, so point still applies :)
I saw that K-tech have a replacement valve arrangement for the BPF's, but it works the same as the 30mm Ohlins: comp one side, rebound t'other. So might as well go with something known.

I think racetech do new pistons too. Not sure what the problem is caused by but the cartridge rather than BPF seems more mature technology. I don't think BPF solves and more problems than it creates but I have not messed about with them.
