View Full Version : Best Wax / Polish?
Unfortunately I can't search for the words which or wax so can't see any old threads on this but what wax / polish do you guys use on your bike?
I use turtle wax, glazes really nicely and easy to buff off / leaves a good finish but it has one major annoyance and that's the fact it's white paste so leaves a residue, not much of an issue with a car because of the size of the panels but a bike is more fiddly and there's places it can get stuck!
Are there any waxes which don't have a pasty residue? like clear ones?

Autoglym - all of their cleaning stuff is outstanding! May cost a few extra quid, but very much worth it!

+1, i normally get Autoglym Super Resin Polish when you buy a bike trader 'goody bag' at bike events, like Northwich Thundersprint, for a £1.

+1 Meguiar's Gold Class Clear Coat Liquid Wax
Autoglym Super Resin polish is very good, as is their Utra Deep Shine polish. Meguiars also gets a +1, but whichever of those three I use I finish off with Autoglym Ultra Gloss Protection. Looks like water, dries to a haze and buffs off to leave a fabulous shine. It's best to leave it on for at least a couple of hours if you can before removing.
For a quick polish inbetween polishing I don't think you can beat Crystal Glo spray polish. It's brilliant for visors, too.

theres wax and theres polish, they are not the same.
if you have flawless, clean paint then a wax like meguires gold glass is the best thing. this will provide a deep sheen to your paint. if its not fctory fresh then i would suggest you use something like super resin polish first as this will help clean the paint and remove small scratches. then top this off with a wax. However both these will take time and effort so you could allways go for a silicone spray as this will make it look like its polished but its not as good.

I recommend Zymol Royale Glaze, it costs a couple of bob but gets a lovely deep shine. One tub is guaranteed to last a lifetime though
Well it'd be for my new bike now which is pretty much brand new so I think a wax would be better. I've heard the megs gold class stuff isn't great but zymol and poorboys get great reviews as does the turtle wax top coat sealer mentioned above

I use Mer. Apply with a cloth, making sure get it on panels only, let it dry, then buff off. Great polish.

This what my mate uses in his job as a professional detailer, he did my Sv with it when i first got it, unfortunatley he wont keep the top ups going :(.
His website is down atm but will post a link up when its back up.
The service he does averages around £450-£600 with top ups costing about £200 ish.
But when you're spending £100k plus on your car, its not a lot of money.

i've got some megs gold class your welcome to if you like, where about are you? i find it darkens the paint and leaves marks if you put too much on. (like oil marks) autoglym is fool proof.

Make sure you wash your bike with a smear free product first. I use baby shampoo as I hate streak on a black bike, don't notice so much on the yellow
Then Autoglym super resin polish.....everybody knows how much Dizz's bikes shine, you always need sunglasses :-)

Shouldnt get streaks if its dried off properly, try using micro fibre cloth to dry off, makes a big difference.
I use Zymol car wash, brilliant stuff, not all suds and no substance if you know what i mean.

I just use a good quality chamois to dry it down. Never seen any streaks on mine.....and I can be quite particular about it being shiny shiny.

No matter what I have used over the years, it has always left some residue behind, no matter how much rinsing or wiping after....I'm a bit anal about it. Baby shampoo is superb it drys with nothing left behind, so much less hassle.
Got some SDoc100 that I used a few weeks back, didn't really notice what that left behind, as its not summer, and obviously didn't dry in an instant in the sun. I was quite impressed with the muck it got off in those difficult to clean areas like swingarm and back wheel :-)

Ask yorkie chris - don't think he's EVER had to redo his! ;)
I think I'm going to have to use a clear wax, with all the decals and contours wax residue gets stuck everywhere! Zymol auto wash is brilliant stuff though!
