View Full Version : Help me find my bike mojo
I seem to have lost it. I can't find the desire to get up off my backside and sort the bike out and ride it.
It hasn't had the cover off since early November last year. Tax and MOT has run out and it probably won't even start now.
But I can't find the urge to get it on any more :(
Is this the end of the road for me as a biker? Will my mojo come back?
What's happening?
Sall, wait until the sunny days come and the roads are warm and you hear all the other bikes out enjoying the weather. That'll get the old juices flowing again fo' sho'

You'll find it.
C'mon Sally, drag that ar5e out for a bimble. You could even use it as an excuse to meet me to drop off the grab rail.......:D

Messie, your mojo is the same place as mine, wherever the flippin sun is hiding.
It came out last weekend for the EAR rideout, but now I've lost it again.
At the mo, I don't want to step outside cos of the cold and dampness in the East. Plus the never ending days of grey :-|:-|:-|
Except for last Sunday (even then it was majorly cold), its been like this for weeks :-?:-?:-?:-?:-?:-?:-?
If I haven't ridden for a while, sometimes I get complacent. It's easier to take the car. I find I have push myself to get back into the routine of kitting up and going out on the bike, but when I do, it reminds me how much I enjoy it.
So my advice is, get it fixed and get out there. Push yourself to do it and you'll find it's worthwhile.
If you do that and find you don't enjoy it, then you can give it up with a clear conscience. Bet you won't though ;)
Is it just around the next bend? Best get out and have a look ;)

I'll certainly swap ya Sal...
your feeling of you can't be bothered with biking, for my feeling like I have been put in a cage and am rattling a tin cup against, because I can't get out on mine :-(
If only I could ignore the urge to secretly pull one out of the shed when nobodies looking and sneak off into the sunset.

Sally, read my sig......:D
Is it down the back of the sofa?
There's only one way to get it back, and that's to get out and ride as often as possible. Doesn't matter how far you go, just get into the habit of using the bike whenever the car isn't absolutely needed. It'll all soon come back to you.

You have PM.....only because I can't say something on here as I need to keep a secret ;-)
Well it's not behind the fridge or sofa but now I'll keep on looking. Thank you Lorna, Ian and Cheryl.
I'll get there...
Are you kidding? Come on hun, get out there. Your Mojo is waiting for you on your bike whizzing round, overtaking, bimbling, leaning, wind in your hair??? Get on it and find it again.

You can share some of the mojo I found today.
1st time (ever) since passing DAS in Nov 09 that I've been for a bimble with some mates/orgers (anyone).
Me and a mate from work met Orose & went to Matlock, on the way home I met up with Dave20046 and headed out to Bakewell (did 150 miles) and couldn't stop smiling all the way (I'm still smiling right now) :D.
Also, must have been a sign from the org gods, found this while I popped into a pub (the manner? nr Bakewell) for a pee.
The barman looked at me funny when I asked If I could take a picture of this equipment.
Chin up chuck, you'll find it soon, if not I'm certain it will find you.

My mojo hasn't been faring too well in the cold and wet.
But we had a couple of nice dry days last week and it's all coming rushing back. Just hoping for some warm dry weather soon.

Mojo will be found in the lanes of Essex and Suffolk, but will need the bike to be on the road to allow you to search for it efficently.
Been out a few times lately. Felt Mojo-less for the first 30secs.....then, oh yes bring it on.
You can do it.... you know you want to really
Agreed .... just get back on it ...... you'll soon find it hiding in your helmet !!

This was demonstrated a couple of weeks ago on the back of my bike - the lady said she was inspired to go and ride her bike again.
But said inspiration seems to have flagged a bit in the intervening time :(.

I've felt the same since Hovis'passing. The last time I rode my bike was the Welsh TT weekend he organised and i havent felt like riding it since.
I got it out the garage yesterday to put the standard number plate back on it for the MOT today and I took a short ride to my parents house yesterday just to give the bike a run. On the way home despite the fact the bike tyre is so square it'll stand up on its own I started to feel like I wanted to ride it again. So much so I was quite looking forward to riding it to get it MOT'd today.
Dont rush it, when you feel ready you find your Mojo and you'll want to ride it again....
Alas 'tis true Squidey. It was a thrill unexpectedly riding through London on a Friday evening and I had temporarily forgotten that.
The sun shone on my face for a moment today. Had a fleeting thought of putting the key in the bike to see if he would start. But then realised that if he did I couldn't go anywhere cos of no MOT or tax so even if it did start it would drain the last ounce of juice away.
Anyone seen the forecast for next saturday?

Just give it a try, you'll either hate it and decide that you've definitely had enough, or hopefully, love it and wonder how you ever managed without it this long!!
I really hope it falls into place for you - you were one of the first org'ers i ever met, at the AR, the week i passed my test :-)
Large slice of lethargy? Got your 'old' bike out for a run last week. Had forgotten how nice it was 8)

Once I get out of this stupid cast I know I've got long slow rehab and I'll need to get my confidence and strength back. I was hoping you might be up for a few nice steady ride outs to get me back into it as you are just up the A12. And we've got to go to Sutton Hoo. So you can't go giving up.

I'm sure there was a bike on several parts of Britain showing excellent biking weather followed by some very good biking weather, with intermittently fabulous biking weather.

Get the MOT and Tax, you'll need that to sell the machine anyway; then when an opportunity presents you can take to the open road. If you still feel the same way after that then the bike is in the best position to sell it.
I bet that once you are on the road again you will rediscover your MOJO:thumbsup:

meh, i've been that way for ages. Its only now the sun and some warmth is returning that I want to ride...but i cant read my book on my bike, i can on the victoria line though
well Messie if you do find your mojo, cut a slice off for me. Ive used the raptor 3 times in last 3 years. If I dont get out on it this summer, Im going to sell. Just got no time, if I have time there is no babysitter, if I have time and baby sitter I have no inclination
Cover the bike and yourself in Elvive shampoo, then you will get your mojo back...acording to miss Tweedy that is :)
If i didnt ride to work, id doubt if id be on the bike. I havent been out for a social ride for months.

have you seen this woman ride? she's a bleedin' nutter! i can't believe she's lost her mojo, it's just some temporary memry block that'll lift as the weather does. i know exactly what you mean though sally, since i had had the little oops on some ice in january i've had no confidence. now the forks have been re-done and the roads no longer have ice on them i've really enjoyed riding to work this last week again.
Ha - note the small print where it says styled with imitation hair - it's not mojo it's a wig! Extensions, and i wouldnt mind them on my pillow...attached to Miss Tweedy thats for sure. However, The thought of her saying Weak, Limp, Lifless after a night with me, makes me think twice

Got Stu to start my bike yesterday. It didn't actually leave the garage but at least it started.
So shall we book a date for Sutton Hoo? That way Sal knows she has to be riding by then and it gives me a date to work towards on my rehab.

You can stop off at mine in Chelmford on the way and fix my Scottoiler too if you like! Or just pop in for tea.
Come on Sal, you know it's in there somewhere! Strong biking urges don't just disappear for no reason. The weather's been sh**e and cold.
I can't wait to be able to ride the Booby Bike again, though I'm a bit worried that I'll have forgotten how. We'll have some nice rideouts this spring and you'll feel all happy and bikey again :D.
I think I've found it. Well Squidster and Treacle did. Made my knees go all weak! I'll confirm though on saturday when I've been out properly.
Thank you, thank you.

Local bike meet has to be the way to go - most of them have flyers for their various easter runs, which would make for a gentle reintroduction to riding.

Stu sold his BMW Dakar yesterday. He's still in shock. But it means we'll be spending the next two weeks looking for an XJR 1300. If we have one in time for the Shakedown then I think we need to get you, BBC and all the girls having their photos taken on it wearing bikinis! (and we can get Zig in his tight Spidey Speedos so we can't be accused of sexism!) That'll get your mojo back.
