Oh dear :-( do you know the history?

Beautiful dog there, good on you for going for a rescue. Hope you're all very happy together :-)

The people who rescued him found him tied to a lamp post in Wales, severely under weight, very timid and allegedly beaten :toss:
So they nursed him back to health but unfortunately had to give him up so he went to the Siberian Husky welfare people, we registered last year with them and after vet checks and home visits they deemed us suitable so it was just a waiting game for the right dog to come along as we already have 2 cats.
He is an absolute gem, still a tad wary of people but it's early days and i'm sure he'll come out of his shell :D

Well done, mucho respecto.
Its hard sometimes to take on a dog with history, im glad things are working out for him.
Saying that, my sis had a husky when i was about 11 and the f**ker bit me but thats another story ;)

Because they are eejits of the highest order and need parts of their anatomies stretching with a set of pliers... Gorgeous dog by the way :smt003

If you want to introduce him to other dogs mate we're only down the road, Stig is the same with people, we get people to completley ignore him when they first meet him, gives him a chance to come over and have a sniff in his own time, and when he's been over a couple of times and starts wagging his tale we get them to throw a toy for him a couple of times and then his yer best mate

He's lovely, and lucky him to get you.

I never understand people, they are just crap to animals, we get so many people wanting rid of dogs after having them for 2/4/6 years, I cannot understand it.I'd better not start or I won't stop!

Cheers Dan, He's fine with dogs as he's been intergrated with them since being a rescue dog, it's humans he's a bit cautious of, saying that he has improved over the weekend a bit.
Might come and visit you with the hound, how are your poochie parlouring abilities? We got one wiffy dog who doesn't like water :D

It's easier if you don't give them the choice..

; )

Our little Jack doesn't really like it, but a few dunks later and he nows goes in up to chest height (all of about three inches) of his own free will

Well done reducing the number of homeless dogs :)

And not just by one either. I believe that if you give a homeless dog a home, instead of handing £500 to a breeder, you're not just helping that one dog but potentially many others.

He looks like a lovely one too.

Thanks all for your lovely comments and its great to see we are not alone on the rescue front. In just one week Oscar has become more confident with us, it's great to now see him playing and having fun. More pics to follow as requested by Jayneflakes.

We would love to let him off the lead so he can run free but on the other hand we are so worried he might just run off as a few people have said once let off the lead he'll be off and not be back! so any advice would be great.

mine have got out a few times and i've been lucky to get them back, once i headed off in the fields behind my house and shouted on them, storm and kia came out of nowhere , running like the wind, faces were a picture, swear they were smiling at me.if you can't find anywhere secure to let them off get a springer for a pedal bike and try him on that, you just need a bungee line-get them here -

Cuffy's, he is absolutely stunning and well done you both for giving him a home and waiting as you did. There really isn't a better feeling than giving an animal that's had a hard life a happy new permanent and loving home. Hollie was used as bait for fighting dogs in Knowle West until she was 6 months old and too heavy to suspend. Then she was severely neglected, only to be put in Bath dogs home for a year. She had one home that couldn't handle her as she's more than a tad neurotic. Another year in Bath dogs home and the next guy that rescued her died after two years. That is when I found out about her and in the last 3 years, I've managed to almost completely rid her of what was extremely severe dog aggression. She now lives with three others!

I think that a lot of people that get rescue dogs feel sorry for them too much which often causes more problems, but you guys have a stunner there and he's one lucky dog to have you!

Gonna bring him to the AR??? ;-)

Oooh, just saw the bit about letting him off the lead. A lady that lives by us was having that problem....her dog would literally just run. I walked with her a few times and took our lot. Ours are a pack and with a Husky's strong pack instinct, it might well help as dogs tend to play and follow eachother. We can call ours all back instantly and with our friends dog....she'd just follow them over to us...lol.

After a while of doing that and using tricks like not always putting her on a lead, playing with her when she got to us and running in the opposite direction any time she failed to come....she soon became trustworthy. We never used treats as she was just not motivated by them and I doubt Oscar would be either. Breed instincts far outweight the desire for food.

Let me know guys.....oh, I can help you bath him too if you want. There's no need for it to be a big mess and no need for it to be something scary if you use the right tricks. :-)

I let him off on Friday, i started off in the back garden trying to coax him back to me with some raw steak and all was fine and dandy, he seemed to know i had meat in my pocket and would come and sit next to me when i rustled the bag.
Next came the wide open expanses of rolling fields, whilst on the lead i rustled the bag in my pocket and he was stuck to me like glue, so with much intrepidation i unleashed the beast...."Oscaaaaarrrrrrr! TWAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAATTTTTTT!
Was like the scene from Forrest Gump, he didn't stop running. Through the 1st field he went, onto the next with me in not so hot pursuit, well it is difficult to get a good head of steam up in wellies in a field which resembles a swamp.
Next came the freshly ploughed field with 2" of cow shoite, too which he decided to go chasing flocks of seagulls (not the 80's new romantic band i hasten to add)
After nearly 2 hours of me trying to lure him close with the steak it still wasn't happening, he'd get close to the hand holding the meat all while keeping his beady eye on my other hand trying to grab his harness, this only resulted in the retarded hound bouncing around barking at me thinking it was a game. Luckily for me another dog walker appeared to which oscar latched on to and i was able to grab him.
So as punishment i gave him a bath when i got home.
So from now on he'll be staying firmly on the lead :-D

That was until yesterday when he caught me unawares and pulled the extendo-lead out of my hand, this then resulted in me diving round in swampy fields trying to grab the afore mentioned lead, i ended up more muddy than the dog.

Oh dear.......sounds like you've lost a few lbs the last couple of days then...lol.

If it's safe to do it, when he does come up to you, don't try and grab him.....get the meat in your hand, turn around and walk away or, as you said, he'll just turn it into a game! Don't let him draw you into doing what he wants....lol.

I don't know if you can still PM Samnooshka on here but I think I have her website details somwhere or they might even be on her profile page. She'll be the person to ask I guess.

Oh man.....what I wouldn't pay to watch you running up to your ankles in cow shoite...lol
