I know this has prolly been asked a 1000 times, but i couldnt really find the info i wanted after a bit of a search, sorry.
im buying an Alpinstars RC-1 2 piece suit next month and i have the option for a back protector,a proper one. But i was wondering do I get this or do i get a Knox contour one??
Anybody have any experiance with either of these? or any equivilent?
Thanks very much
Chris

I think the consensus is to buy a "proper" back protector such as the one that Forcefield produces which is "Ride Magazine" recommended as this will provide more protection than those that slip into a jacket.

Yeah get a seperate one. Halvarssons or forcefield

I use the knox 8 plate one.
It's comfortable to wear and has a great safety rating.
I don't know how it performs under crash conditions but Guess that when it comes down to it, Anything is better than nothing.

I'm replacing my jacket back protector later this year. Nowt wrong with it, but after seeing YCs Halvarssons one I wish I'd bought one of those instead. Mines a Halvarssons one, I just don't get on with it...keeps dinging me on the base of my lid :-( Suppose thats the problem with ones that fit in your jacket.....they move, unike the seperate ones.

I read somewhere that when buying a back protector you should take your jacket with you so that you can try them on before you buy as getting hit in the head by them is a common problem.

Yes, worse on sportsbike where you need to look up when tucked in.
Halvarssons one is no problem with this. (for me anyway)
Worth trying with the suit. Knox contour needs to play nice with any shoulder armour etc.

Mine was the protector for the jacket, they aren't daft they make sure the pocket only fits that particular one in it. Its a three layered jacket and over the years the one it sits in has got a bit 'comfy fit' or worn and loose! Never used to do it.

I think he means when trying on seperate back protectors
I have a Forcefield L1 Pro it is seperate from your jacket etc so you can wear with any of your clothing! Its so comfy you don't even realize that your wearing it. PLUS it was voted No.1 by BIKE Magazine i think it was. £89.99.

i use the forcefield L2 (which is the one you want for biking) its saved my life already while snowboarding (i just remember waking up in the snow with a man covering his kids eyes infront of me :) ) and it does offer some sort of protection. Crucially for me its thin.
However due to my beer gut and **** it does ride up my back and that is annoying. I still use it every day for a 5 mile commute to work however, without fail. i am considering purchasing another one as this one is a few years old now.
I've recently got the Forcefield L2 one. Fits nicely under my leathers, and I used one on track too with no discomfort or anything!
Not tested it though, thankfully!

Forcefield L2 for me too, I had a Knox Contour for a while and it was quite nice, but too high at the top for me - kept riding up and catching between my neck & the bottom of my lid.
No real issues as yet with the current one, apart from it being another layer to take off / put on again, but that's no big deal.

i use a Knox Aegis fits me well i have the 6 plate one as the 8 plate was too large and would have hit my lid. it did take a bit to get used to it bu i use it every day and don't even notice it. i got mine for about £80 from HG. I too have a beer gut, just a wee one but the strap can ride up the front if it's not put on correctly.

I would say a) think about what areas you want to protect then b) get what's comfy as everyone is a different shape.
I found alot made me feel sweaty with 2 minutes of having them on in the shop, and some didn't go down as far as the coxyxs (sp).
I went for a dainese wavefront 13 I think it's called as it was most comfy, had the protection I wanted and breathed well. It was £99.99
