View Full Version : Lorries don't have very good visibility.

It seems, as the driver was oblivious to this:

Now I'm not completely convinced that it's genuine, but if it is, well... WTF!
My Mrs didn't tell me she was taking the lorry out today:eek:
Well there's someone driving the car - you can see the brake lights go on & off.
Bit strange the lorry has no traffic around it, but a solid wall of traffic behind it - bit like the Police are keeping traffic back from the incident.
Other than that I wouldn't be surprised if the driver couldn't see the width of a car right in front (below) of his cab, and seeing big trucks like that just bulldoze other vehicles out of the way in police chases I'm not surprised if he didn't feel it slowing him down  either

don't know what linky could be provided if you can't see you tube. But it looks like a fuel* lorry driving along a motorway while pushing a car along broadside in front of it.

I just been on the Arclid (company of truck) website to see if they mentioned anything about it. They didn't but that company is either run by a funny or naive man.
Here's how they just described their new chemical delivery truck:
Equipped with the latest blowing equipment, you can rely on a quiet and speedy discharge
Oh I do like a quiet and speedy discharge.

Give them a call then...I dunno why she has to turn up in a purple truck but hey who am I do argue?

Well, if I was driving the car that videoed that and it was real, I'd have sped up, beeped like mad going past, got to a safe distance in front if the lane was clear enough and I would stick the hazards on and wave him down...NOT video it when there is someone sat in that car being pushed.

this is what I think. Even though the road is damp, the friction caused would still enable the tyres to smoke.

Sorry to be the only on topic post...;)
But I've watched an artic in traffic pull from lane three into lane two on the approach to a roundabout on the M275, what the driver couldn't see was the Ford Ka that had stopped directly in his blind spot while he was checking his mirror. The truck pushed the car slowly but effortlessly sideways from lane two almost completely into lane one, phenomenally powerful machines
The vid however has to be a fake, no way could a rig keep up that kind of speed with a car on the front like that, even if he wanted to

The truck wouldn't even notice it.

According to our news website, the car driver apparently walked away unscathed (http://news.sky.com/skynews/Home/UK-News/Lorry-Shunting-Car-Video-Arclid-Launch-Probe-Into-Truck-Pushing-Renault-Clio-Along-A1M-Wetherby/Article/201003315576181?).

Then why on earth aren't there other cars beeping their horns and flashing, including the car from which it was filmed!?

That car, after he yells "he hasn't even seen it", has plenty of time to accelerate back in front of the lorry! You can see the clear lanes in between them right until the end. I think the lorry driver was just asleep...

Sorry, but if I were in that car, there would be no way on this earth I would want to get anywhere near. I would have been just like all the rest of the cars behind the lorry. Staying a safe distance away.

I must admit, i did think it might be fake, but that tanker driver should be sent to prison imo, i know it sounds harsh, but if something like that can go un-noticed then he shouldnt be in control of something like that, what would happen if that was a motorcyclist ???

Couldn't the car accelerate out to the sid eof the lorry?
Nope, the car is pinned and if the car did get loose there is a good chance of it getting turned around and getting hit by the tris. That is where things would get really ugly.
...
FWIW, it is not always the trucks fault when a car gets turned around like that. Many years ago the SA government spent millions on an advertising campaign to make motorists aware of the dangers of cutting in on trucks. It is impossible to know how the car got there just from the video.
What surprises me that the driver didn't see the car there. Cab over designs usually (not always) have fairly good visibility. It is the big conventional designs that have problems. Some of the American designs have blind spots that are over 30ft to anything of reasonable height.
