View Full Version : DVLA - Licence query
I had to renew my photocard in Jan - duly took all photo copies and checked for my bike entitlement on its return no problems thre photocopies out.
Now I find that my bike entitlement start from 20/50/07 not 05 when i passed my test.
Becuase i was on a restricted licence they took my entitlement from my when my restriction came off.
I've spoken to DVLA and they won't change it but surely that's not right
I tell plods that I've been riding for 5years but licence says otherwise
Does that mean I'm going to have to carry my test cert around as well??
I'm well:smt013 but:confused:.com too

AAARGH!
No the entitlement is right, whilst you were restricted your entitlement was A2 - after 2 years, your entitlement changes to A so you have only held the A entitlement since 07.... make sense???
see thats what i thought its just seems weird seeing that though

It's just how the DVLA works. If any plod disbelieved you then we have access to the DVLA Database which details when you passed tests CBT, etc etc etc so it will show that you held a retricted licence for two years.
The DVLA are right on this one. It's just because of the change of entitlement.
Now I find that my bike entitlement start from 20/50/07 not 05 when i passed my test.
which month is month 50?! :p;)
so it was 20/05/05 but now is 20/05/07?!
Does it say anywhere about having an A2 licence?
I didn't know that. But then why would I? There was no such thing as a restricted licence when I did my test a million years ago.

Lily, it won't show the A2 on her photocard, it might on the counterpart, not sure. The photocard only shows what entitlements you currently hold and as she no longer holds A2 there is no need for it to be shown.

That's the same as LGV as well. I used to have class 3 on my licence until I passed class 1. Now it just shows class 1 entitlement.
thats what happens when you give me brains on a friday afternoon - I get confused too easily

so if i get pulled for what ever reson the week after 33bhp come off and have sent my lisence away so it now says i have only been riding for a week they are going to/could talk to me like im a compleat noob because they think i am a noob, lol that to me dosent make sence, but maybe im not looking at the bigger picture :)
No because you don't send your licence away once your 33bhp ends! They take it off once they get your licence back for another reason, like change of pic, address, name etc.

Would the A2 bit not go down as historic entitlement?
Seems a bit odd if it does not in there since insurance companies ask how long you've held a license for.

So DVLA database will say she is legal to fly a 747 or pilot a containership into Kowloon harbor but not ride a C90 then :-P
the DVLA did say that on their test screen it shows I've passed in 05/05 so I should be safe - its just strange otherwise
wtf thats not right :/
Exactly, the English is atrocious
:p
Sounds like a worry if you only had motorcycle entitlement and so after 2 yrs of 33bhp the police thought you were still on only 6 points entitlement before you lost your licence for another 2 yrs.

No, the database shows everything. It will show the A2 as an historic entitlement and I think her counterpart may also show but it won't on the photocard.

It's not an issue. The database will show you were on a restricted licence for 2 years before you get your A entitlement.

So the people who lost their bike entitlement after renewing their licences ( cos DVLA c0cked up ) could have it reinstated via the database? This includes long-standing Police mechanic.
Why did they get it SO wrong when it's their database?

I don't really understand your question.
Quedos didn't lose her entitlement on her licence, they changed it from showing A2 to it showing her A and it shows the date of her recieving her A class from the date she was no longer restricted...

Yup they show the new date from when your unrestricted entitlement begins. On your counterpart it will show the date you passed your test and gained 33bhp entitlement.

It does appear on the counterpart, mine showsI had A2 licence form 24/07/97 then on photocard it shows A licence from 25/07/99
