OK, I work with bloody PCs all the time. But hate the things.

So just trawling the org. I accidentally press the middle button (wheel on my mouse) and this strange up/down set of arrows appear and the page scrolls very nicely.

All these years I have cursed the srcoll bar at the side and somebody had already invented a nice scroll mechanism for me and could be bothered to tell me.

OK I bet you kids already knew about it.

It's not useful at all though and is hard to control, however if you click a link with the middle button (scroll wheel if you have it configured like that) it'll open in a new tab, which is very berry useful.

I use it when reading a lot of text - middle click to auto scroll, then set the speed to approximately as fast as you read, then sit back, slurp coffee and read.

I used a computer without a scroll wheel on the mouse the other day.

I felt incompetent and nearly cried

My Laptop has that funtion, at first it used to really bug me, but I grew to like it. Then I stopped using it.

My Linux machine is cool though, it has a brilliant optical mouse and a load of buttons that do all sorts of things, back and forth through pages, up/down, I think one of them would make the tea if I asked it. The laptop though is on boring old XP.

I discovered that those little bottles of drink full of friendly bacteria may well be good for your insides, but they are not good for the insides of your PC and when you ring the IT dept to inform them of this they will be quite cross.

IT Dept staff aren't real people, they've been created in a lab to test your ability to hold back laughter.

Mine stopped working too. It may just be that you need to update the driver for the touchpad.

What is the laptop model?

IT Dept staff are real people that have been ground down by the lies, idiocy and stupidity of users who should never be let loose within a 100m of anything more technical than a pencil.

Fixed it for ya.
