Hi all,

My name is Ian and i've been a member of this site for some time. Though admittedly I normally just read and don't post much, the time has now come to part company with the SV in favour of a Honda CBR 600-RR.

Unfortunately, due to a crash and a bit of neglect; the bike is currently declared SORN. And in it's current state is NOT road worthy. I believe getting it back on the road would cost hundreds of pounds.

I do not have the skill, the patience or the tools to 'break' the bike myself, nor know anyone that does. As a result i'm intent on selling it to someone who does, so that they might either make a profit from it, or gain themselves a track day project. :-D

I bought the bike for £3000 two years ago, it has about 16,000 miles on the clock. All I mean to do is recouperate some of the money I have lost, as I was left paying off the loan when the bike had to be taken off the road. Lack of money due to debt's stopped me from getting the bike back on the road ASAP, and now it's too late.

The bike had a service not long before I declared it off the road, so it has a new chain and sprockets on it. The tyres are knackered. Both front and rear calipers are sticking. the front break lever is broken, the back brake lever has been sheared off, no front right indicator, flat battery, (completely flat, optimiser made no difference) break in the top fairing, on the left hand side, bad scratches on the rear fairing, scratches on the exhaust.

Phew, I think that's about it. Pictures to follow over the next few days.
If anyone has any thoughts, please PM me. :-D

Thanks all, and remember; shiny side up!

Hey, thanks for the interest so soon.

I will have pictures up on this thread by Sunday the 28th march. Sorry it's a while off, I'm pretty bogged down with stuff at the moment.

As for the price, I'm still deliberating at the moment, I should have a better idea of a fair price when my mate has looked over it, but the price will be negotiable anyway.

I should also say that I'm based near Oxford, and anyone who buys it will need to pick it up, I don't know anyone with a van unfortunately.

Thanks again guys, pics online by 28-3-10.

Hi all, with a bit of luck I should be able to upload some pictures now, I'm not too technically minded though, so please stick with me!

The asking price is £550. I arrive at this figure due to the parts that are in good condition, the low mileage etc. This is negotiable to an extent however.

I have put some pictures in this post, but i appear to have hit a maximum limit of five pictures. :-(

Here are some more pictures hopefully. :-D

I also forgot in my initial post that the speedometer is also not working. I think it's just a case of either changing the cable, or repairing it. I think the cable got caught when the bars were at full lock. Maybe a soldering iron job, though i'm honestly not sure if you can fix it that way.

I thought so too, but I just wanted enough money to pay off the rest of my loan, I'm not looking to profit greatly!

(Don't worry, It's a bank loan; I own the bike!)

Hi Zax,
Im very interested in the bike. Im not too bad at wielding a spanner and this could make the perfect project for me to get myself the much loved SV.
Can you tell me:
1. Has the bike been written off i.e. a Cat C or Cat D etc?
2. Can the engine be run for a veiwing?
3. When you say 'neglect', are you saying that the wheel bearings are seized, the chain and sprockets need changing and the brake pads are thin on the ground?
4. Any chance of more photos and details of the damaged/neglected areas of the bike?
Loads of questions I know, but hopefully it'll give me a good idea of what to expect if I pop over to see the bike.
Cheers.

In the crash the radiator was damaged, but I replaced it straight away so the one on the bike now is pretty much brand new. All the damage to the bike was on the left hand side in the crash, the damage to the right was done when I dropped the bike in tesco's car park. :-(

Hello Projic,

The bike has not been written off. All items damaged in the crash were replaced, except the rear brake pedal and the fairing panels.

Assuming the bike had some petrol put in it and the battery was changed, the bike would run fine.

The brake pads are sticking, which makes it hard to push the bike, but i'm pretty sure the bearings aren't seized. The rear bearings were replaced in the service. I'll get my mate to have a look and i'll get back to you for definute on that.

The chain and sprockets are brand new, as you have seen. :-P

More photos are Not A Problem, though it would help if you asked for specific shots.

I will list all the damage in as much detail as I can as soon as I can, along with pictures of the area to go along with my detail. This could take a little time though so bear with me.

Sorry, something else that slipped my mind: The bike is currently restricted to 33BHP. I'm always forgetting something! (It's restricted via a few washers in the exhaust.)

Im mainly interested in the things that keep the bike off the road. Lets face it, summer is just around a fast swooping corner so I want to know how much time is needed to get the bike roadworthy. Ok, some more incisive and probably more important and necessary questions....
How fast were you/the bike going (not the Tesco carpark incident) when it hit the ground and did it hit anything, spin, roll?
What parts have already been replaced?
Who fitted these parts?
Can the restrictor washers in the exhaust be easily removed or does it need a new exhaust?
How long has the bike been standing?
Does the bike have all documentation available for viewing and is it registered to you?
Is the bike alarmed/fitted with immobiliser?
Would the bike be available for viewing this weekend?
Cheers

EDIT Ok, viewing Thursday? Ha ha, thats a joke. Sounds like Dan's living quite a bit closer has already owned a few SVs where I have yet to enjoy the pleasure.

As far as I can see from the pics and read in descriptions that bike could be back on the road with no money spent at all, just a light fettle here and there.

I have seen bikes ridden in much much worse physical condition for years, and still are being ridden.

You could spend alot making it perfect, but that is just cosmetic and superficial. (exhaust scratche, fairing etc),

barwel1992
30-03-10, 04:23 PM
^ yes i know that but it needs new battery £60, rear tire £90 inc fitting £20 fitting for the front that i already have, possible new pads £30, oil change £15, indicator £15ish, road tax £66, mot £30, fixer peg/ brake leaver £25+ then because im picky i would want to get the front fairing sorted so lets say new fairing about £140 ish, clocks infill panel

the way i would do it (properly) its about £5-600 in cost covering most possibilities of extent of damage im not saying you couldn't do it for cheep but to do it properly then the cost is a fair bit
