Hullo my cherubs!
Just in after a lovely bimble on the bike that was slightly spoiled by a cage trying to kill me!
Due to the slip road for M8 being shut Erskine was really busy with traffic. There was a long que of cars approaching a roundabout and nothing coming the other way so off I went to near the front of the line [as you do]. This guy behind me in a wee black car went completely nuts [traffic still at a standstill at this point] and drove forward trying to push me off my bike!
I lifted my flipfront to ask what his problem was and he was ranting and raving about "you f*** bikers". I'm afraid I wasn't a lady and said that I was allowed to filter and overtake a que of cars and that he was a "f*** a** h**".
Anyway peeps. Hand on heart I didn't do anything wrong. Although I know I shouldn't have swore at the guy.
Any tips for handling this should it ever [God forbid] happen again.
Now going to pour myself a large glass of red [even though its a school night]
Thanking you in advance
Dawn xxx

Relax, deep breaths

Firstly the world is populated by opinionated knobs. (i am just opinionated) accept it and get on with your life.

I have a mate called red. People assume it is because he is a scouser. in fact he is a blue. Red is because of the mist. When it descends. things are not pretty as he drags his knuckles off the floor. You just know things are going to hurt. Bikes and cages are no different. You are going to get hurt. so avoid it.

walking/riding away is far cleverer than being carried away. Do not descend to their level and keep the morel high ground

Sorry to hear about your experience hon, I'd have been shaking like a leaf after that, you deserve your glass of red!

Trying to ignore something like that is tough though, especially at the time.

Smile back, wave at him:laughat::laughat:, and carry on... it winds them up like crazy.no point in getting into a fight. If he had seen you coming, and deliberately moved his car over to the white line to stop you filtering, then he's a **** who doesn't know that bikes are allowed to filter..

He's just jealous that bikes don't have traffic jam issues, and he's stuck in his cage for ages going nowhere..

If he opens his car door onto you deliberately, then you've got the right to "accidently" kick off his wing mirror:smt027:smt027 Survival of the fitted out there...

Give the plamff a wave goodbye and nip in front of the next car, or keep on keeping on right to the front of the queue.

You are then well away from that type of rocket. Smile, as the fecker will still be stewing:)

Staying calm in those situations in never easy, just think how lucky he was you were alone and not riding with a Bandit...

The road is full of idiots, some get very upset when u filter past them, It may be jealousy or just stupidity, I've had a land rover come through a single lane tunnel when i had right of way, because i was a bike and should have squeezed against the wal to let him through. 15mins i sat with the engine off with him shouting and swearin , reving his engine with his bumper about 4 inches off my front wheel. I said nothing, just sat with my arms crossed and waited. Only when there was a queue of cars behind both of us did he reverse. And i didnt squeeze through the first or second gap he left but waited until he had reversed all the way back past the white line he should have stopped at.

Every situation is different. Breathe, count to three then respond in what ever way feels right to you at the time. just make sure you have an escape route if things turn nasty. Kevelar is a great leveler.
putting your hand to the side of your helmet to indicate you cnat here or blowing a kiss usually drives them mad though.

Flip the helmet Look him on the eye and say ' If i need to get off this bike... then go and put the kick stand down and watch him lock his doors and close his windows very quickly. Great fun.
either that or the kisses work well esp if you get a lady as well.

It not nice when it happens but best to try keep a calmish head Hope the red was worth it!

Amandas reference to tena lady suggests you, along with the some of the usually larger breasted gender, had a moment of lack of bladder control.

Ignore him, and just move off when you can.

If his red mist comes down he may do something stupid and dangerous. Car 'v' bike = car wins.

Not worth the agro.

Was it Bibio at last years Glencoe Massacre who challenged the Porsche owner for being up his ****? I thought that was really gonna kick off!

Bit of entertainment when eating breaky.

Luckily I havnt had someone like this but I am sure it will happen eventually.

Sounds to me like you done exactly the right thing. It's astonishing how many car drivers think filtering is illegal. If nobody corrects them then the few who decide to try and enforce their misguided version of the law will keep putting bikers lives at risk.

I've lost count of the number of conversations I've had with colleagues at work over the years, " really? I thought filtering was illegal?". They know now!

They've been watching too many American movies! The number of people I come across who call it "lane splitting"...

Bikers should be allowed to use tasers in self defence against a-holes like that. After all if you were a cop you'd say he tried to kill you with his car.

On the first GM somebody crashed and a bus driver got out of his cab swearing and shouting that they had to get the bike out of the road as it was holding him up. Kilted Ginger sent him scurrying back into his cab with a few choice threats :smt042

no threats were uttered, i politely offered some health advice, something to do with longer life expectancy if he returned to his vehicle as its hard to get enough oxygen with your head inserted in your rectum. LOL I'd forgotten about that
