Awww, spiders are lovely and they eat nasty things. :D
What you need to do is what my sister refers to as Grow a pair!

Apparently chestnuts are good spider repellers.

I can confirm this. If chesnuts are conkers.....! We got loads of conkers and spread them round this house this autumn and made a huge difference. We still did get the odd one but nothing like what we normally get in the house.

Possibly French Onions. I found Habanero chilli plants are quite aromatic if you treat them right. :laughat:

Spiders eat flies, I hate flies, therefore arachnoids rule 8K.
I can hear those sound-repeller things. Eurgh. Cringing feeling in my lug-oles.

Soapy liquid if they breathe through their skin like insects.

The conkers thing sounds like an old wives tale lol
So has nobody tried the plug in thing then?
Our own Spidey hasn't answered, so looks like they work lol!

No Darren, its apparently to do with the conkers drying out and releasing a gas. It honestly worked for us. Normally during autumn and winter we get LOADS of large spiders but we really only had a few.

What's wrong with spiders? I like spiders.

They hide in buckets and cardboard boxes and scare me when I find them. And they put webs right at face height in the middle of the garage so I walk in to it

Yeah, but they're very cool and they eat the flies and whatnot - which is worth a little web in the face every now and again surely.

Na flys are cool. I like them. They don't sneak up on me silently and cover me in web. They just buzz in to the lights a few times then they are on their way
They can also bite you
But spiders are cool, im kinda scared, but im trying to force myself not to be bothered by them and its working :p

hair spray and a lighter works
Nope, those electronic repellents don't work. I had one on the first boat I lived on which had a fair few spiders in it and I swear I could hear them laughing at it. Tried the dried chestnuts too and they did work for a bit, but after a few months just gave up and named the spiders instead.
I used to be **** scared of spiders, but after a while you just learn to live with them and realise that they are there for a reason.
If all else fails then a hoover works wonders

That's a shame they don't work. The mice ones do apparently.
Ant killer spray works wonders. Just spray it in all the corners, nooks and cranies where a spider might enjoy spending some time and the jobs a good un! Have to keep doing it every couple of months though, but it does work/kill them. Ideal for a garage, but maybe not so good for the living room...

I'm starting to get offended by the idea of killing spiders and its bringing up very bad thoughts of the times i was nearly killed.
I may have to lock this thread soon, can you people not see how you are offending me with your ill judged humour????

Have a pet spider, feed it flies and watch it (usually her) grow nice and big.
trust me they are beautiful animals and amazing predators, think of them as the lions that live in your shed or garage. All the benefits of an amazing tertiary carnivore but with out the large mounds of dung to clean up.
I miss my Honduran Curly Hair (http://arachnophiliac.info/burrow/caresheets/brachypelma_albopilosa.htm), she was so sweet.
