The one game i have on my PC i installed when my disc drive was working and it played fine without having to insert the disc but I uninstalled it to install the US version so i could put the expansion on and now it says i need to have the disc in to play it. This wouldn't be a problem if i had a working disc drive.
But any ways does any one know how i can make it play with out having the disc in the drive?

yeep you're gonna need a nocd 'fix', better known as a crack.

what game is it for? You essentially need to make sure that you find the correct nocd crack for the specific version of the game you have - different versions of the same game require different cracks. Once you've found it, download it, unzip it, and you'll have a .exe file for your game. Find the directory where your game is installed, drag this new exe file you;ve just downloaded into this directory - it will ask you to overwrite so click yes. I'd back up the original exe file by copying it onto your desktop or something just in case the new exe doesn't work. Then simply run the game from the new exe file you've just dragged into the games directory.

Here's a site you can try as a first port of call
http://www.megagames.com/pc-fixes

if not, just type in on google something like 'the name of your game' nocd crack or something, but then you end up surfing some unreliable websites.

gd luck!

(obv goes without saying these tips are intended for people who own the game and have misplaced the CD/dodgy CD drive, like the OP's circumstance, not for illegal activity - there gotta say it before the 'moral brigade' come stampeding in).

aye thats the one, never actually played sim city and the only reason i started laying this was because it came on desktop we got ten years ago because we bought a big pack full of software and it just happened to be in there. Dis got ruined and it took me ages to find another one.

yeeh, man the random games that used to come with pc's back in the day. So many were soo shocking, but soo addicitive, and nothing like fishing them out after many years!

And remember kids, keep the CD cause if you prove you bought the disc a crack isn't illegal

theres also a program which runs on your pc. When you install the game it makes a nocd patch from the game cd. Then lists all your installed games allowing you to play without discs. I cant remember what its called

Why can't you find a new disc drive?

Well I can fint one they just seem to be an absolute rip off for some reason. I punched the screen on it a while ago and had to buy a new one and it was cheaper to buy the new LCD screen than it is to buy a CD drive for it. :(

Pardon my stupidity nut is it the CD drive or the hard drive that is kaput?

If it is CD drive then I have a couple of spare ones sitting about somewhere here

I can double check they work and if you pay postage its yours

One mate I have spoken to who knows about such things says basically any 2.5" drive should fit - the problem would be the drivers when you fire it up afterwards. Do you have the OEM disc that came with it?
