View Full Version : 3 bikers killed after being hit by dump truck
Well it happened in the States (not here) - but bikers are bikers. A dump truck rear ended a group of ten motorcyclists in North Phoenix, killing 3 of them and putting many others into ITU.

The truckers excuse is beyond belief really! How's he gonna live with that on his conscience. Poor bikers, RIP.
You would think even in a convoy of ten motorcycles you would have safety in numbers and visibility. Well not if the drivers eyes aren't where they're supposed to be.

Wow.....I can't believe that dump truck driver was stood talking to the police like that! If I'd killed 3 and seriously injured 6 more, I would be inconsolable.
RIP bikers and wished for a speedy recovery for those in hospital.
Unbelievable

Crazy stuff.
Different people react in different ways, but it is certain that at least one of the witnesses was more upset than the truck driver. All I can say to his excuse is "Wow, is that going to be your defence!"

Vehicular manslaughter, Arizona has quite steep penalties for this i think, I'll see if i can find it, but with that excuse he's doing real time. Rip to the riders and thoughts to their families.
Yea, ******... ****ing about with paper work, what sort of story is that!?
Yeh it's beyond belief. He'll be in jail for a long time, undoubtedly, especially if that's the excuse that went down on the official police report. Horrific for the poor bikers.

I guess the excuse he gave is the truth, which isn't always very complicated or attractive.

sheesuz, nasty way to die.
I went on an advanced driving course years ago back in South Africa. Part of the course included tactics for safer urban driving (applies to riding to). Some of their tips...
1. When you come to a stop at a junction or roundabout, ensure you leave at least 4 metres of visible road space between you and the vehicle in front... so that if you see a vehicle approaching at speed from behind (or you're approached by hijackers - more plausible in SA) then you have space within which to take evasive action.
2. A similar tip was that when you're stationary in the middle of an intersection (turning right) waiting for oncoming traffic to pass, that you ensure your wheels are pointed straight ahead - not angled towards the road you're entering. That way if you're hit from behind you're not shoved into the path of oncoming traffic.
I have to admit, I've stopped doing this in England (no hijackers ;-)) but this is a reminder to keep an eye on my mirrors when stopped...
RIP guys

+1 to the above. My dad always said that too me in terms of driving, but even with about a cars length between me and the car in front, when I saw a corsa come up behind me at 30mph and saw the driver looking at the dashboard, I realised he was going to hit me. If I'd been on a bike and left that room, I could have scooted out to the side and blatted my horn but in the car, I just managed to reduce the impact and damage.
That driver was, at least honest....but that's his only redeeming feature in my mind.

Sheesh! Horrible accident! Hope the guys still alive in the hospital pull through ok.. But you gotta ask yourself, with drivers like this guy, why don't leaders ensue a stronger attitude towards educating drivers of how dangerous letting yourself get distracted at the wheel can be. That guy, although honest, is a terrible driver. In fact, I don't consider him a driver at all. A driver is supposed to be a responsible person who is concerned with the safety of himself & others. This is why we have a system where you are allowed to drive only if you have a drivers licence, so that people would not be dangerous when controlling a vehicle. It seems to me that the lack of knowledge regardin the dangers you can pose to others & self by not of paying proper attention is a lack of driving skill and hence you should not be issued a drivers licence..
Hope those bikers will be ok..
I believe a fourth has since died. Tragic.
It was pointed out on another forum that on Foxnews it was headlined as a "multiple fatality bike accident" or somesuch, not a dump-truck massacre. It goes to show the underlying mentality of so-called journalists.

Tragic news if the fourth had died :(
Not good news. 4 bikers dead at the whim of a careless dump trucker. Nothing that is said or that will be done to the dump trucker will console the poor families of those that died. Nope, no justice in this world.
A driver is supposed to be a responsible person who is concerned with the safety of himself & others.
exactly, even more so when said driver is controlling a vehicle of this size. But I guess no amount of tests will prevent a careless fool doing something like this. Proved to be a very deadly weapon in the wrong hands.
