Hi everyone,

Im new here, i got a 03 SV650s on sat, the previous rider had come off it and damaged front fairing, light cluster and speedo so all of those are disconnected, the bike had been stood in a garage for 3 years and i trailered it back, i tried to start it as there was a little fuel still in the tank, however in wouldnt start, i thought the fuel might be off so i added a little fresh fuel to it but still wouldnt start, ive taken the bike to bits and there is only an earth at the fuel pump when cranking, no lives and you cant hear it kick in (I have removed it from the tank), there are to live feeds to the coil all the time with the ignition on, however with a spark plug in the ht lead and placed to earth,i cant see the plugs firing, (New NGK spark plugs), also there doesnt seem to be a live feed to the injector when cranking ,however there is an earth. i taken the fuel tank and air box off, could i have disconnected someting that is causing all these problems, the old plugs didnt seem to be really wet after trying to crank it over, so im not sure if the fuel is getting through.

does anyone have any wiring diagrams that could help please or know where i could find them?

I am a mechanic on cars and this is the first bike i have worked on, so im not to sure how different a bike is or if there is something im missing

any help would be great, many thanks

Good morning.

You may well have a few dodgy connections on a bike that's been standing for 3 years. Check all fuses too. Is the fuel pump kicking in when you turn the ignition on?

Cheers.

you need speedo assembly connected to get power to your pump and also handle bar switches , side stand switch everything must be connected check out a wiring diagram to see what i mean.

thanks for the reply, i thought the speedo might have to be connected, i know that on some cars the immobiliser runs through it, but i wasnt sure if it was the same on bikes. the fuel pump didnt sound like it was kicking in, but that could be due to the speedo. thanks for the wiring diagram, does anyone have a clearer one cuz i cant really see the conponants that are listed on there.

many thanks

right just to give u guys a update, i had sometime today to check the bike out, found a blown fuse for the fuel system, replaced that but still no joy, however i do now have a feed to the pump, which i didnt before, i then removed the pump and bench tested it, not working, found some 2nd had pumps on ebay which im going to buy and stick in.

Im guessing that with the bike standing for that long the pump is siezed up and thats what blew the fuse, however could the injectors also be seized and if so is there anyone that can repair them or supply me with new ones at a good price?
