Are you trying to tell us you have passed your test?

If so congrats and get a proper blade.

Congrats Grunty, but how the hell can you pass a test in 10 minutes? IIRC my test was well over 90 minutes and that was before these module 1/2 'stricter' tests?

I know.....we left the test centre, took a left at a little roundabout and a right at the next one. Had a car try to cut me up at that second one but I thought I handled it ok and gt all my Obs right. Then up the ring road 1/4 mile, up into Kingswood, but straight back out again, back down on to the ring road and straight back to the test centre.

I was bricking it, thought I must have done something dangerous and was actually ready to give him a piece of my mind if he failed me because I knew I'd done it all well. My instructor looked well confused. Got into the test centre and he said, "Congratulations Cheryl, you passed at a very hight standard and well done on noticing that Volvo". My instructor then said, "wow that was quick". The reply from the examiner was, "well, the standard of riding was well high enough and I saw what I needed to see in those few miles so no point staying out in this appauling weather unecessarily".

BARGAIN because I was freeeeeezing! :-)

Hmmm....got a CBR400RR, not big, but definately not slow...lol.

TBH, I think it has more to do with your attitude rather than the cc of the bike. It's up to you want you do with your right hand, use it foolishly and pay the price....take it easy and don't rush things and should be alright.

That's my opinion anyway, some may disagree, but doesn't matter as I'm not about to go get on the big Blade....lol

A BJ only takes a few minutes LP! :D

It's what I've often thought, that some examiners know instinctively when a learner is up to the neccessary standard.

Firstly......damn, was it that obvious??? ;-)

Secondly, I'll still be on the CG til the Babyblade is ready, but the guys at the training centre have said I can go up there for a ride on one of their 500s when the babyblade is ready so that I don't have to go straight from the CG to a fully faired and lovely bike. They said, use ours to get back in big bike mode..COOL :-)

Ad-a-girl :-D xx

Maria, when you come to do yours, don't stress....it's not at all scary. The Mod 1 is fine.....just remember remember remember to look where you want to go when doing your figure of 8 and u-turn and I think this is really important to remember....when doing your figure of eight, if you think you are going to hit the yellow cone, just go around it. You are allowed to do this once and will only get a minor........then remember to look where you are going and you'll be fine.

I was terrible the morning of my Mod 1 so no idea how I pulled it out of the bag!

Yep.....oooh, I can go on the motorway now if I take the L plates off the CG. YAY.....I can take the L plates off!

Anyway Tony....more importantly, when are you going to take me out??? I haven't forgotten the offer of imparting some of your massive biking wisdom to me :D;).

I might surprise you like i did Dan and Squirrel_Hunter....I'm faster in the bends and lean the bike way more than either of them were expecting but I want to make sure my road positioning is good, entry and exit of bends is good and that I am using the gears effectively.

I'll pay in petrol and tea/coffee xxxxxxxxxxxx

Totally understand you there. I am actually surprised that there have been so many incidents with the Mod 1 in the wet as although it was dry for mine, all of my training was done in really stinking weather, very heavy rain and very high winds on top of a hill in a rubbly tarmac training centre that's half the length of the test centre.

As the instructors said today when I asked about it...."if you can't do the hazard avoidance/emergency break in the wet, you have not had enough instruction and your instructor should not have put you in for the test.
I was amazed at how much grip you actually have in the wet. Having done it, I can say that 50kph sounds fast, but it really isn't. You have a big wide sweeping corner to pick up a bit of speed, then a really decent distance to put the throttle on to get the speed. Then, if you just throttle off as soon as you go through the speed trap, do the swerve and stop in the box, you're fine. I reckon people have come off because they've maybe tried to slow using the front brake whilst doing the swerve because the wet has made them nervous.....who knows, but it's much much easier than I thought it would be.

It was the slow control that worried me because that's where your nerves really get the better of you.

You make a good point there MA. I've kind of flown through all of this and have been really loving it, so I am getting incredibly concious of not letting myself get over confident. Luckily, I've had a few lorries and Audi drivers scare the living daylights out of me and I did go a bit too hot into a left hander when out with TheOnlyNemesis on Saturday. I didn't cross the lines, but I'm well aware that I am a proper real newbie...lol.

With the offer of tea I'll be happy. Anytime the bunch are out or you feel like a blat around and I'm not working I'll join in, riding my usual well balanced sedate manner . I'm sure you'd learn more from SH than I though for the twisty stuff.

As the great Han Solo said "dont get c*cky kid"

Where you are now is the bottom of a very steep very sharp learning curve. Just get out and clock the miles up. I would add some wisdom that I learnt from my old man.

"Go out by yourself, dont go on group rides or rides with your mates"

Its something I did. I never did a rideout with anybody else at all for the first 18months or so after passing my test.

Riding in a group or with somebody else is just extra stuff to concentrate on, you dont need that added pressure at the moment IMHO.

I agree with you about the mod 1 and the swerve. The first time I came round to do the swerve and was bamoozled by the huge number of multi-coloured cones and ended up doing the swerve at about 40 KPH. Went through again at 59kph and that was on a damp surface. The grip you get on the test centre surfaces is huge.

Thanks Fizz and I do agree with you. It's been very easy for me to just feel great because of how well all the training and the tests have gone, but I am very well aware of the fact that this is just the beginning. I've booked me and Stretchie on a day at Castle Coombe in May...

http://www.castlecombecircuit.co.uk/trackdays/events/motorcyclesafety.asp

to help me along a bit and I'm going to do my enhanced rider assessment as well in a month or two.

It's weird because after passing my driving test, I was fine.....had already been driving every day since I was 9 on my own around the fields and farm where I kept the pony and worked for his keep.

Now though, I have passed, but you literraly do get taught just how to get the bike from A to B, so I have a lifetime of learning ahead now as, I'll never know it all!

Will be doing the reccies for the AR though as I'd be doing those routes anyway with other people. Luckily, I can take the bike out everyday for a bit on my own so can rack the miles up quickly....have already been using the CG for little trips here and there and making big detours to get some more time on it.

Doesn't sound it. I do disagree with the inconsistency of the examiners though. According to the instructors, those that have not long come out of training are super critical and take very little notice of actual riding ability, preferring to see that all things are done by the book. So......I could technically have been given a minor for holding back at the roundabout this morning, but I knew what the car was going to do, the examiner knew and praised my observations and avoidance of a potential hazard.

When I was on my CBT ride and we stopped to watch some Mod ones, one of the "old school" examiners passed someone who didn't do any obs after his emergency stop, none at all and that should have been a fail as he also didn't do a lifesaver before his u-turn. Everyone was shocked, but the examiner said he was convinced that the bloke had full control of the bike.
