View Full Version : Well farewell to the SV, hello to the Gixer :)
So I did the deed and swapped out my SV and picked up my new 750 on Monday, shame the bloody weather hasnt let me ride it for more than the journey home!
Funny thing is I have modded the GSXR more in 3 days than I did with the SV in a year (well actually I only put a yoke protector on the SV :D )
Anyway quick few pics of my new baby

Give me a chance it has 6 miles on the clock ;) with this weather I will be lucky to be able to use anything but the centre of the tyre for the next 100+ miles :(

One day, but not rightaway, I would like a Taylormade but another £1k ona can is not happening anytime soon, for now I am awaiting a CF heat guard which will at least blend the front of the can in better with the bike
Looks good in black. :D
Its not Black!
It is metallic brown/titanium, in the light it has a cola colour sheen to it which I think looks fab, from a distance though it looks black

See when you first posted about this I looked at the Suzuki publicity shots and I thought it looked bl**dy awful in that colour. Now you post actual pictures of the bike I think it looks really good, I like it
Enjoy nothing beats that new bike feeling :D

I have booked myself a test ride next week on the GSXR 600 at my local dealers.
Enjoy it Sir..........:smt026

Yep me too, had to go see one in the flesh and instantly wanted one as looked so different than the pics (web or brochure) when there is actually sunlight on it the colour looks even better than the pictures but it wanted to rain as soon as I got back from the dealers

I actually think for a standard can, it's one of the better looking ones
Just put a new heat guard on so looks a little better now

Looks pretty smart that, the press photos looked terrible but looks better in the flesh, would still prefer a simple black one, I was really tempted with a 750 when I was looking around at new bike but the insurance just wasn't worth it at the time :(
Hopefully the sparkly finish won't rub away with it being a suzuki and all that ;)

makes my heart skip a few beats when I see one of those, would look even better with an Arrow GP pipe :)
That looks amazing! :smt060 I've been toying with getting a GSXR 750 but keep trying to telling myself I don't need one! I saw that colour on the Suzuki website and didn't like it but it looks soooo much better in your photo's.
So you gonna write us a review? I would be really interested to read it.

Hmm, a review, well short and sweet how about:
"Bloody fast and that is only up to 7500 revs, god only knows how you hang on above 10k  "
Perhaps when I have managed to take it out and get some miles under my belt I will post a few words on how it rides but seriously the biggest things I have noticed is the steering is soooooo much lighter than the SV, the bike feels a lot lighter on the road (although I believe it is about 2kg different?) going into corners, even gently as the tyres arent worn in at all yet, is a different ball game too, it feels so much more controllable and as mentioned above even in low revs it feels like it wants to take off with a slight twist of the throttle
One comment though is I read so much about how 'crazy' a GSXR 600/750/1k is but I would say that is tosh, at the end of the day you can ride it like a fool or you can ride it sensibly, a bike is only as dangerous as you choose to make it, I can still ride at 5-10mph and if anything can stop quicker on this than a 125cc so which is safer

Thanks for that. How long you been riding? I'm intereted to hear they're not too bonkers. I know they only go as fast as you make them, but I'm thinking with less than two years experience it might be too much for me right now. One thing I would like to know, is there as much torque? What I mean is when going into a corner if I'm going too fast on the SV I just let off the gas and it slows quickly, does it do he same as quickly with the 750? I could see me getting into a whole lot of trouble going in too fast then panicing and braking and meeting the tarmac [-X
I took a GSXR 600 for a test ride and found it loads easier to ride than the SV, and it has about the same power until you get to 9k revs.
If you can ride an SV you can ride a 600 and probably also a 750 or thou. They are only as fast as you want them to be.
My blade it a bit of a beast but it's not like it tries to kill you at every opportunity, keep it below 6000 revs and it's a pussycat, it's only when you push it it gets a bit hairy, and by then you are going way past the speed limit anyway.

If you've been riding for two years you would soon get the hang of it. You would find the need to use the brakes more because of the difference in engine braking. And depending on where you are in the rev range you would certainly feel the difference, i.e. if you were well up in the rev range you'd find the acceleration to be awesome. Equally if you were pootling along in low revs and cranked it open it can take a little longer to really show its colours - more gear changes reqd.
I certainly wouldn't fear a change up in performance and engine configuration. I've found the bigger the bike, the easier it is to ride but I've always changed up when I've felt I've outgrown the performance of the bike I've had. Just be sensible and take a little while to get to know it.
I went from 125 single to 400 IL4 after 18 months, and up to 850 a year later no bother at all.

On my latest stint of 2 wheels I have been riding 1 year! However I did ride in my teens for a few years although only really 2 stroke screamers but I guess 3-4 years of actual riding experience so not I dont think that you shouldnt ride a gsxr with 2 years experience as it is what you have done in the 2 years that counts? If you do 4-500 miles a year then you cant compare to 5-6000 miles a year riding experience, also its whats between your ears that counts :) If you expect everyone aroundyou to do something stupid and try to counter that then any bike you ride will be safer than someone who rides expecting everyone (particular those on 4 wheels) to do nothing stupid!
Engine braking is different on the 750 from the SV, the slipper clutch should keep you reasonably stable though if you do drop the gears too fast but again anticipate and dont be lulled into thinking you can go faster than you can control when you dive into a bend and you should be ok.
At the end of the day only you can decide, take a few out for a test ride (I didnt ) but I alwasy knew I wanted either a 750/1000 as my next bike but from what I have experienced so far I think I made the right decision, it really is a great bike to ride and on Thursday I rode it further in one stint than I ever did on the SV and enjoyed every minute of it :-D

It does slow quickly, If you use the front brake instead of relying on engine braking then the 600/750 or 1000 GSXR is going to scrub off speed a hell of a lot faster than the engine braking on the SV ever will.
The engine braking is there especially at higher RPM. But use the front brake its what its for and it is a much more effective stopping tool than engine braking is IMHO.
Its just part of the difference in character between the V-twin and IL4 engine configurations.

What is the retail price on the bike because Suzuki have put prices up lately & did you px?
What is the retail price on the bike because Suzuki have put prices up lately & did you px?
retail is £9220, I got it for £8500 and they took my SV in for £3.5k (1 yr old) plus got some bits fitted for cost price and 2% finance so all in all a pretty reasonable deal in my mind, I know it will depreciate but compared to the losses I have taken on cars over the years I am not bothered about that, not to mention some of the K9 models I enquired about were being offered for the same 8.5k so seemed daft not to go for the new model
Yeah all in all a pretty good deal m8..just love the colour
gorgeous looking bike, i dont think the jump from the SV to the 750 was bad for me at all.
I loved the SV, but the 750 does everything alot better and has the power to back it all up. Before i rode the 750 i was worried it might be a bit fast, but now im more than happy with it, i wouldnt mind trying a thou, but i would imagine they would prob be a little bit too quick for the road.
The engine breaking is not an issue at all, its there in the higher revs and the brakes are much better on the 750.
Enjoy.

The SV's too quick for the road, at least if you listen to the law...
Too quick for my brain as well! I'd still jog it in for a 750 or suchlike in a year or so though. Get my money's worth before I do though!

Thought I would just update this thread with the mods to the bike now that I am done and can just enjoy riding it now, hope you like?
R55 added, Yoshimura case savers and oil filler cap, powdercoated rearsets, pillion pegs, gear linkage etc. all the nasty stickers removed, DB ZG tinted screen, black adjustable levers (pazzo lookalikes but a hell of a lot cheaper ;) )

That really is a stunning looking bike!
Thanks guys, really wanted to make her look a little bit nicer than standard but not to go overboard with the changes, I dont need extra speed (its a missile anyway) so just a few cosmetic tweaks (will be changing the pillion hangers to get rid of the inbuilt stock exhaust hanger they decided to put on the the 2008+ models) but just enjoy riding it out and about now :)
Beautiful bike that, +1 to the tyre scrubbing!

Those mods are very nice, subtle but makes the bike stand out especially the case savers.
How much to powdercoat the rearsets/pilion pegs etc?

Yep subtlety but something different was the aim.
The powdercoating was £45 for all of it.

You can hack the cat off and use a K7 slip on with a mid pipe, TBH although I dont like the look of the cat I was not too bothered and could pick up a new R55 for £300 and being a DIY donut I knew I could probably cope with installing a slipon by myself so went that route.
It still sounds a lot nicer than the stock pipe but not silly loud to attract the wrong type of attention!!!!
