Just heard a chinook out the window. No need to look, the sound is very distinctive

We get army lynx landing here quite often (will post up video when I get home).
They mistake our field for selly oak hospital field next door.

Good job they aren't looking to bomb them;)

They are awsome machines.

I **** myself the other day whilst driving at night and one passed what I can only describe as touching distance overhead with no lights on at all. I thought my car had finally blown up at first.

Awesome machines. I saw one at Abingdon Airshow doing stunts that you would not believe!

I hope they take a bit more care when they are deciding on who to bomb!

I'm guessing that one sports field looks very much like any other sports field from the air though ;)

i know a Chinook Pilot, when not on deployment does the air shown. Hes about 23 and very lucky highly skill dude. I'm not jealous ;)

Is often seen flying over the village where my family live to say hello to his mum, Or landing on the farm airstrip for a cuppa with us. Very big and very loud beasts :)

Speedplay i get them coming over the house on the way to selly oak.

When I lived in germany I was riding my bike through a feild when all of a sudden I had to stop just to stay on it. The crew of a chinook decided it would buzz me, and at 40ft above me made it mad difficult to stay stood up. They were so close I could see them laughing at me as they flew away. :)

They often fly out in packs of 2's or 3's over my house. Lovely rumbling sound they make.
The V twins of the air?

That's not their fault - blame the fools who send them, not the brave who serve.

We get loads flying over our way, infact there was one flying over at about 4pm. There was also one the other day that had a tank dangling from it as it flew quite low over us!

Edit: can hear another flying over just now

I flew in "Wokkas" loads in the Falklands. I love them.
One time the pilot was having a dogfight with a couple of Phantoms. He was throwing the thing all over the sky to stop the Phantoms getting a clear shot at us. It was just an excercise, they weren't enemy planes.
The loadmaster was running all over the inside, keeping the pilot informed of the Phantoms locations.

BTW, the avatar pic is me in a Lynx in Northern Ireland.

We get them flying over our office in Wetsminster all the time. When we were further up the road nearer Buck House we could see them landing in Her Maj's back yard (dropping her shopping off, no doubt).

BTW, when I was on my last residential school I found myself paired up with the Commander of the Apache force. Lovely bloke, rough job. Turns out whilst he and I were sitting up late one night chewing over a management exercise, this was going on: http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/south_asia/8513092.stm
He'd been involved in organising it, but he just carried on as if nothing was up. I didn't find out about it until the next day.

Apaches you say

even more amazing... Never seen one in real life.

It annoys me that the competition to fly these is insane, yet prince harry gets it handed on a plate. Jealous yes, but still unfair.

I've never seen one in real life either, but the little doodles of them he was drawing on our flipchart looked just like that. He really was the loveliest bloke though - the sort of person you'd want as your Dad. I think he retires next year.

And he did say his biggest nightmare was having to look after HRH!
