Bah tax. If my car was exactly one year younger, same model/engine etc, it'd cost 125 quid to tax instead of 205...

its a 1.3 but has a displacement of a 2.6 v6, and they are not very economical.... at all
Think it's done on emission rather than engine size post 2000.
How much are sub 600's to tax now?
Found sub 600... Gone up £2 to £50.
In the eighties there'd have been riots in the streets - nearest we get to a protest now, is a little bit of organised slow driving on the motorway - whoop-de-f*%!@ing-whoop.
Little bit here, little bit there, it all mounts up, and it's pay-rise time of the year, and those of us lucky enough to be in jobs, will no doubt be told, that the economy is tough and we can't afford to shell-out any more - there's plenty of unemployed about that'd have your job if you're not happy.
RIOTS I tell you, RIOTS!
We've been told further paycuts could be on the cards after a 12.5% paycut last year... Everything going up, wages going down, lovely.
I need a new job to be offered quicker.

Is that all below 600, does that mean my drz400 will be £50?
What do you pay now?
The £33 and £15 brackets have stayed the same.
£48 (sub 600) has gone up to £50
£56 (600+) has gone upto £70
not sure of the exact size brackets but the other two have stayed the same.

Wouldn't it be nice if bikes were based upon emissions like cars, instead of engine size? my economical, cat-less curvey would easily fall into the bottom bracket , making it free. Just a thought...

No surprise at all.
With regards to the rediculously high increase for cars like the rx8 this has been on the cards for a while, and was supposed to come in last year, but didn't because of public outcry and the fact that the country was in deep recession.
What with the government publishing figures claiming that we are on a recovery (funnily enough the figures they base this on includes the month of december when everyone spends the cash they have, or have not got on christmas) and the relative lack of publicity this time around they seem to have sneaked this one through.
Oh well, at least with all this extra revenue they can now concentrate on spending the money raised from road fund license repairing our pothole covered roads .
4 quid! I'm never going to be able to afford 1.095p more a day!
Its scandalous! :D
I'll... I'll... Whinge about it and do nothing, then just accept it.. because I'm British. :D
Almost mad enough to affect my British Apathy.
... or maybe not.
Whichever government gets in after the election there's going to be some *serious* utting and taxing to do to sort the country out.
We should be in for 5 years of real pain but I doubt the government will have the nerve to do it.
£4 increase on bike tax is a virus, in a flea, on the shrew, thats sitting on the top of the iceberg that is the real amount of tax rises we actually need.

That's what the goverment 'supposedly' want... Less gas drinkers on the road and it appears to be working.
A friend at work sold his old cooper s for a new one as the tax was £250 less a year and more economical.
Our company now don't have cars over 110kgm emmisions for this reason... Unless your senior management of course

Ours isn't. :) Pretty much the latest one you can get before the tax goes through the roof as its a Jan 2006 and anything IIRC March onwards hits the 'new' bend over group.
Although I even wrote to my MP when they were proposing backdating the tax increases (and to be fair to him he even brought it up in parliament).

Well done there. I don't want my 2005 2.7L petrol V6 4x4's tax to be brought in line with the new brackets either :pale:

I actually wrote to him and said (something along the lines of) that all it was is a punishment tax, fine to increase the bands on 'new' cars, that might change peoples buying habits (towards lower 'polluting' cars) but claiming that it was in the name of 'being green' to change the bands on existing cars is bullsh*t as its plain and simple punishing people for a decision they made sometimes years before. It won't change the number of 'polluting' cars. The increases will reduce the value so owners are stuck, either pay the tax or lose the same (or more) money in value (values of high CO2 cars dropped lots after it was announced that they were planning on rebanding).

****..been hit twice with car/bike extra £34 a year for both.

My ktm got taxed on the 31st so I was lucky and got the old price.
Still £48 for something that very rarely sees Tarmac is a bit steep.
I still think that the best way would be to scrap road tax and lump it in with fuel so if you have more than 1 bike or car ect, your only paying for what you use.
We would still only end up getting robbed by the government though.
I'm actually in favour of the principle of what they're doing with car tax generally, encouraging better economy. Most people could downsize one class in car if they wanted, smaller cars are getting more capable these days.
What does annoy me about the detail of what they've done is the unfair anomalies. I saw what was coming 10 years ago and bought a 1.0L Yaris ahead of the game, but because it was before the CO2 banding came in I now pay a penalty, albeit probably only an extra £30 or so a year, but it all counts.
The really annoying bit is that the car banding now puts band B (<110gm/km) at £20/year and band C (<120gm/km) at £30, wheres a >600 bike using about 110gm/km (equivalent to around 55mpg) is £70, which simply cannot be rationally argued. Bikes are seen as anti-social and undesirable, and they want to penalise the category, full stop. No-one said life was fair, but governments really take the pi$$ sometimes.
Did I mention the TV prog the other week with family on benefits getting £568/week ...............:smt071

Are you sure about that? I was under the impression that the increase in tax was on cars made from 2001 onwards.
I hope you are right though as our car is an 03 and emits 219g/km so would be hit with a large increase if it is 01 onwards.

They changed from capacity to emissions banding in 2001. They introduced new high emissions brackets in 2006, which are much more expensive. However, they're not applied to already registered cars, hence my car is a band K £245 instead of a band L £425.
Barwel, where does your mum's £470 come from? Top tax bracket looks like £435.

Check out the first year tax for new cars registered after 01 April 2010 and over 255gm/km......................Band M = £950!
What happens if you can prove your car is lower in emmissions than the group its spposed to be in?
Can you move group?
Fitting a Hydroxy unit would really lower the emissions and is fairly easily done. That way you'd be ina much lower group.

Sounds like BS to me. Even if you did add O2 and hydrogen to charge you would probably increase flame temp and increase NO production.
Sounds like usual free energy bollox.
15-20% fuel savings :smt082:smt082:smt082:smt082
The price of petrol at the moment is the real ****ter @ the moment IMHO

I'm skeptical, but do believe that most of the oil companies would not take to alternative fuels too well.
Says at the bottom of this post http://carsplus.blogspot.com/
"The IRS rebates $2,000 to any tax payer who has fitted an HHO kit."

Why not? They've got the cash to invest and the distribution network to use. They'd be the first to start cashing in.
If these things worked, they'd be fitted as standard.

Any government that gets into power in this country will screw things up big time, and will just rape you for for more every year to cover up their mistakes.. That's another £5 onto the vans - now a full tax year for a van is £190.. total ripoff...
Ford Fiesta Van ('09) - £190
Ford Fiesta Car ('09) (Same diesel engine & Co2 emmissions) - £35
Would someone tell me who's being shafted??? No wonder stuff costs so much to send in parcels nowadays....
I retaxed my car and bike for a full 12 months each before the budget, so that's me escaped for another year.
They should be scrapping road tax for bikes anyway - they don't cause congestion and choas on the roads.
