Anyone going to Badminton this year?

We will be there, possibly staying with Stretchie and GG if they have settled into the new place by then.
If not then probably camping with Mr VT's parents.

Probably not, we used to go every year but its got worse and worse as time goes by. Now is full of people, noone seems to know anything about eventing, noone seems to have any manners, so I refuse to go now. Id rather do Blenheim, Burghley etc

We'll be there for one of the days and yes...we'll be settled in by then hun so you can stay with us. We'll be 20-25 mins away from Badminton then...shame as we're only 4 miles away at the moment :-(

I'm really looking forward to it. I like taking the dogs and not spending much time at the shops. I like to go for the shopping on the Thursday when it's not s busy and I can watch some dressage :-)

Yes Matt, I agree, it's full of chavs now, which is sad really but I do like to go and oogle the horses and of course have a look around the trade stands (I need a new pair of boots) and of course to see GG and Stretchie!!!

GG, Stretchie, ooooh can't wait! Yay!
Oh its going to run a different schedule this year, the XC will be on the Sunday so Dressage is going to be on the Friday and Saturday instead of Thursday and Friday.

Dave, shame you aren't going, you will have to give me the names of your horses going so I can cheer them on :D

Ah, they are doing it that way then, I was told they were a while back but then didn't hear about it again and I never check....lol.

At least with my local knowledge Jen, we won't have to get stuck in the majority of the traffic!

Cool, I did a HND in equine Science and BTEC in Equine business management at Hartpury college in Gloucester. What college is Becky attending?

she is currently doing 2 year national diploma at merrist wood in guildford (Olympic training ground apparently) and has decided to stay at Merrist wood for her HND. A couple of girls she is at college with are going to Hartpury but she would rather save her money and stay at home. Im glad as she is only 17 whereas other girls are all nearer 20

Yeah, it can get expensive. Her friends will LOVE it at Hartpury. It was well above the rest when I was there all those years ago, now though, it's incredible. I took my mare with me when I studied. They used to use her so I never paid a penny fr her livery. She stayed there for 4 years after I left as she was happier there than being in a field/stable on her own. In the 4th year, she was taken out of the stable one day for a passage demo and was hopping lame. Hartpury covered 6 months worth of x-rays and tests and eventually she was operated on in their custom built equine surgery. They kept her there for a further 12 months and put her though all of her rehab as a way of saying thank you for all that she had given them. She was then retired to Horseworld and lived out her days in bliss in a field with a Shetland.

If your Daughter ever wanted to go there in the future, jump at the chance to send her, their facilities, standards of equine care and lecturers are incredible and with so many international and british olympic riders living with a 20 mile radius, they have loads of demo's and masterclasses there.

Anyway, derail over, sorry Jen :-)

she would probably love to go there but the cost of living in etc is horrendous and unfortunately we cannot afford it. At least at Merrist Wood she can keep her weekend job on and live at home, she likes her home comforts like food lol. She still doesnt know what she wants to do with her life anyway, but she is having fun in the meantime.

Dont worry about the derail, its not really a derail in a sense as you have kept on the topic of 'Horse enthusiasts'.

Im off to ride mine in an hour and a half and am so pleased with her, she is going really well.

What day is Becky going KK? I expect they are going to do the Sunday for the XC?

Hey good luck to her! I've been doing an evening class at Merrist Wood over the last year or so, and really enjoyed it. The indoor school is fantastic, especially when it's all cold and wet (i.e. most days lately!)

Not going as my horse enthuiast days are long gone - I have been to Badminton a couple of times in the past though - brilliant day out  I was planning to have a trade stall there with my paintings quite a few years ago but was struck down healthwise and have not been able to consider it since :( On a slight tangent - I did once show my appaloosa in hand at Hickstead (around 1980ish) and came 6th  - I got to do a lap of honour round the Derby arena :D what a great day that was!

Wow! Was she at advanced level dressage?

My horse was on loan (after I fell ill) to a college and when he went lame they did the same for me - no expense spared with regard to diagnosing the problem - when the fateful decision day came they dealt with that for me too - they took a lot of the distress out of it for me as I was in no shape to deal with it :(

It's horrible having to make those decisions isn't it.

As for Teasle, she only competed to medium level as I was never that interested in all the travelling and stress. I just enjoyed schooling and giving demos and going for nice long hacks. Teasle could do all the elements of a grand prix, actually her transitions got so good at ne point that she could have done a half decent grand prix test, but was only 15.2hh and like I said, never went in the ring at more than Medium.

The best thing, one that all the students would request most was completing a Medium dressage test without any tack. Just me bareback, using weight, leg positin and centre of gravity to control her gait, speed and tempo. Unfortunatley she had so much cadence and impulsion in her extended trot I'm amazed I never flew off...lol. Oh, she was the best at lateral work too. I wish I could take the credit, but she'd been extremely well schooled when I got her. She came from a dealers yard as she'd almost killed a girl by going over backwards rearing. Only paid £1,500 for her I remember getting her in the school and thinking.....wow, she's really responsive. Wow, she's taking the contact beautifully...lol:smt040

Had a super hack out, she is soooo brave! We had a cyclist run and everyone was flying past on bikes and she was just concentrating on me and what I was asking her to do, I'm going to do some schooling tomorrow and then a nice fast ride out on our own to blow away the cobwebs!

Thought we were doing next weekend or the weekend after that?
Anyhoo, Tina is keen for you to have a go on Annie, she might even lend her to you for a couple of months if you can find livery down there as she is having a back operation and cant ride or do the horses for 3 months.

She is an absolute pleasure, so willing to please, a real baby with legs all over the place at the moment, but going to school her today and try to balance her up a bit.
